Mind you, I like you would like NO abortions, but we could have saved 97-98% and fought for the rest one at a time and have come off far better than we have.

Californians of Mexican descent who were forcibly deported to Mexico during the Great Depression will have until 2007 to seek damages for losses to their families and homes under a bill headed to Gov. Gray Davis.

The bill, by Sen. Joe Dunn, D-Garden Grove, allows residents and their descendants who still live in California to take their cases to court by Dec. 31, 2006. It passed the state Senate 27-8 on Friday.

The bill, concerning a little-discussed chapter in the state's history, allows claims against governmental authorities and organizations who acted with them to force residents out of the state.

Backers say thousands of U.S. citizens and residents of Mexican descent were forcibly moved in vans and trains to Mexico during the 1930s and 1940s. In some cases, reports the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, a supporter of the bill, local governments in Southern California placed liens on family homes to pay for their transportation.

The bill provides a special new statute of limitations for the deportation cases, similar to those used for claims for Holocaust victims insurance claims, Armenian Genocide victims, World War II slave labor and braceros.

What the he%$ is wrong with people? Gray Davis is pushing through stuff like this bill - and all that matters is fear that someone MIGHT raise taxes.

Any responsible Republican should be able to see that they must unify to throw off the Davis/Bustamante corruption!

How can anyone call themselves "conservative" and not do everything in their power to SMASH Gray Davis?

You recognize that it is not going to happen overnight! So it takes small steps to eventually get to where people are convinced in their hearts and minds it is wrong! You take what you can get and work to get the rest!

That is exactly what is bothering me and I have to wonder how many of these screen names I have never seen before are actually Republican Conservatives. Consort said the other day that Clinton conservatives were the ones that wanted to teach Bush #41 a lesson and ended up giving the rest of us 8 years of Clinton.

Wonder how many of these folks are part of that group. The Chancellor P. said that the folks at Rats.underground were cackling about how they come on here post and get both sides warring. Figure we have too!

Some old screen names that I do know, I cannot figure out that sticking with McC is helping to elect Cruz. When you get the conservatives of the CA Congressional delegation lined up with Arnold, then you know there is something they don't appreciated with McC and feel he cannot win. Would bet his uncompromising attitude comes into play!

OMG! I can't even believe what this nutcase is doing the past few weeks! I hope the rest of the state starts to see these kinds of things!! This is absolutely insane! It is as if he is getting his revenge on all of us for the recall! He has to go!!!

IOTW, he puts himself #1. What a dumb thing to do -- self term limit, change to a Lib, and then come back to the Republicans when you cannot win as a Lib. But he is a "principled" conservative according to his following on here! Never mind he isn't a team player!

We're running out of time for playing games.

They could have just said nice things about Tom, urging people to vote for him. I could understand that, although I think it is highly misguided, to be charitable. But instead, they chose to attack another Republican, rather viciously, at that. This is NOT a primary.

So, I'm sure that you're equally offended by the FReepers who are spending all their time attacking McClintock, in word and in photoshop, instead of spending their time saying nice things about Arnold.

No, I didn't think you were. You're just feigning offense at CRA in a silly attempt to further bash McClintock.

That is what I am hearing from those who know him. The word is he is arrogant. I don't know if that is true, as I don't know him personally, but have met some who do.

I am equally offended, or perhaps a better word is disappointed in both sides who are fighting the wrong enemy!

McClintock will never be elected governor in Caulifornia, Arnold might be if McClintock steps down. Otherwise it's Booze Crustamante.

When you get the LA Times, the Clintonites who are talk show folks like Couric, and others all talking about what a good guy McC is you know there is something wrong. They really want McC in the race to go head to head with Cruz so Cruz can win.

Cannot believe these people cannot see that.

If the LA Times told me the sky was blue, I would have to go outside and check!

>>>Thoughtful conservatives, like Dana Rohrbacher thought it through and can see that Arnold is the Republicans' hope.

Rohrbacher may be a thoughtful conservative, but he isn't a principled conservative.

Politics is about winning elections and holding power, but not at any cost. For a conservative Republican, "not at any cost" means, not at the cost of electing a liberal.

Here's a few remarks by Michael Reagan on Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom McClintock.

"As Governor, Mr. Schwarzenegger would be a darker villain than any he has faced in his movies, sinking the Golden State into a moral vacuum." Michael Reagan, the right-wing talk jock, scoffed at swooning comparisons with his father, the former President, calling Mr. Schwarzenegger nothing but an actor and noting that there is a big difference politically between them.

****************************************

"The common wisdom is that Schwarzenegger is a sure winner. A lot of Republicans think he is. But what a lot of those Republicans don’t seem to know, or care, for that matter, is that Arnold is not really a Republican, but a Democrat claiming to be a Republican. Should California Republicans get behind a pseudo-Republican merely to be able to claim that they’ve put a Republican candidate in the governor’s mansion in Sacramento? Are they that desperate?"

~snip~

"I know it’s asking a lot to suggest that my fellow California Republicans wise up and get behind the most competent candidate in the race, a proven state-wide vote getter, Tom McClintock. He is the only candidate capable of cleaning up the mess in Sacramento and digging the state out of the black fiscal pit in which Davis and the Democrats have buried us."

Think of it as hiring someone. I want to ask these folks, What is your trash collector's position on abortion? Your dentist? The guy who sells you the Big Mac?

The answer might be, They don't have anything to do with it.

Well, yeah, but (A) they may take your money and go out and PAY for an abortion; and (B) this election isn't about abortion anyway.

You hire the guy who will do what you want done. Or closest to it.

Yep. AS is playing the winner strategy, McC is playing the loser strategy.

Tom did know, Arnold did not.

Thanks for letting us know what you heard on the show.

Imagine the shrill screams of outrage if Arnold had pulled a stunt like this on Tom?

Arnold ambushing Tom? LOL The images that run thru the mind are.. well.. Oh never mind.

All is fair in this "non-primary",short cycle election. If the undebater won;t go to the debate, the debater needs to hunt him down. That's hardly a cheap shot.

The voters or at least the delegates deserve to see the 2 mano a mano on the issues that confront this state.

Anything less makes a mockery of the recall and elective process, in general.

Arnold's been in this thing for a month now. He hasn't spent his life thinking about every piece of minutia on how things get done and the pros and cons of every single issue like a career politician. that's why everyone likes him...he doesn't have an answer to everything...but he knows what is right and what is wrong and he will find out how do get it done. That's how he's conducted every business in his life and that's how he will run California.
