I just saw Dana Rohrbacher on Hannity & Colmes.
He said, that as a conservative he is supporting Arnold, and "principled conservatives" should vote for the one, who is closest to their philosophy and CAN WIN, i.e. Arnold, instead of allowing someone who is totally opposed to everything they stand for, Bustamante to win.
Hannity also asked him, if he will call for McClintock to withdraw, he said sure, but he won't listen, he said he hopes that McClintock will think it through, or words to that effect, but he didn't sound very hopeful.
For a while I thought that McClintock is an idealistic person, who really wants the best for California, and that is what drives him. But to be willing to take the Republican Party and the entire state down with him, does not show him to be a person conservatives should support. He is a "maverick" -- he against the world, no compromise. He and of course his supporters are those, who are helping Bustamante get elected, just as much as if they campaigned directly for him.
Issa, who put his own money into the campaign, decided to withdraw, so did Simon and Ueberroth, because they put the interest of California and the Republican party ahead of their egos. It is unfortunate that Tom can't do this, because he is destroying his own political future as well, not to mantion the party and the state.
The McClintock supporters can hardly call Dana Rohrbacher a RINO.
At H&C, in another segment, about Bustamante's association with MEChA, it was mentioned that Arnold has been a member of the "US English" organization for a long time. (The MEChA supporter called that racist).
I think if McClintock wouldn't be on the scene (and never have been for this election), conservatives would take a good look at Arnold and like and happily support him.
I really think if Arnold would have all the identical positions as McClintock, had the life of a saint, and would have the charisma and celebrity status to get elected, vs. McClintock, who can't, most of the McClintock supporters would still prefer to support McClintock, even if that means Bustamante winning. So the voting on the issues excuse wouldn't work, I think what we have is "McClintock personal cult."
Thoughtful conservatives, like Dana Rohrbacher thought it through and can see that Arnold is the Republicans' hope.
To: ladyinred
And, BTW, again, what despicable behavior. Why are so many eyes so tight-shut?
Arnold, running against Bustamante.
McTickTock, running against Arnold.
Who should get out, for California's sake, again?
Goodness.

Since McClintock was prepared to go after Arnold debating, I would be willing to bet he was part of this staged deal showing up in the studio while Arnold was on the phone.
Arnold has class and it is looking more and more like McClintock has very little.
When is he going to go after Bustamante the way he keeps attacking Arnold. He didn't even go after Bustamante in the debate when he was on stage with him.
Wonder what the powers that be in the CA GOP think of McClintock now! Not sure some were too impressed before this cheap stunt!

If the anti-abortion crowd had a brain among them long ago, they should have fought the battle as: "No abortion except for rape, incests, children getting pregnant or the life and death health of the mother." Had the anti-abortion crowd went all along for that instead of all or nothing, we would have several more millions of lives saved instead of none. Very well stated and I agree 100%!

It is SO obvious that I honestly, sincerely wonder what is going on with many of the folks here.
Here's Bruce Herschensohn, for whose campaign I worked, on Hewitt saying he endorses McC because it makes him feel good and if we lose, so what? He'll feel good about himself.
I can respect that (not a lot but) more than the taunting jackals here who call on Arnold to drop out, who lie about "surges" and "momentum," who slander the good conservatives on this site for not voting their way....
You know what makes me feel good?
- Not having to lie to support my candidate.
- Knowing that my candidate would prevent a lot of the harm done, and being done, by Davis and the Dems.
- Knowing that everything distinguishing him from the opposition is in the RIGHT direction, rather than the LEFT/WRONG direction.
- Knowing that my candidate's oft-stated, clearly-heartfelt philosophy tends in a direction good for the families of California.
That makes me feel good.

Rohrbacher.... isn't he Dave Garofalo's "mentor"?
If Dana wants to help Arnie, maybe he should just stay quiet. The connections are already quite obvious.

Thank you for the facts in your post #97. They seem lost on the McC supporters who prefer to call names and spin.
I figured it was a set-up against Arnold and McClintock knew it. I have lost total respect for the man who never goes against Bustamante! He is a Maverick in the same vein as the other McC(ain). Amazing how much the two are alike -- would rather trash a fellow Republican than go after the RATs!

I heard that. I was disappointed to hear that from Herschensohn, I have a lot of respect for him. It is really a shame that he lost to Boxer, because of the Dems vicious personal last minute attack on him. One would think he would do anything to make sure no Dem gets elected.
All these bright people need to realize: You don't vote "to make yourself feel good about yourself", you vote to ELECT the best possible person, who is closest to your view. And that most certainly is NOT Bustamante, who will get elected, if someone doesn't break the spell for the McClintock supporters.
To: PhiKapMom
Armstrong and Getty were very surprised by the response of the callers after this little set up. They expected anti Arnold calls saying he is hiding, etc. Instead, people were more upset with McClintock saying he had lost their respect with his badgering of Arnold, his tone, and his compliance in this gotcha. Two of them said he proved he is just another politician. Very interesting show this morning.

So DANA ROHRBACHER says
McCLINTOCK WON'T LISTEN! That would be why McClintock is unfit to lead anymore. He is obstinate. He is doing the party harm and he knows it. He is acting IMO more like a traitor would in the Republican party rather than like a team player.
McClintock is a screaming kicking baby it seems. I see him having to leave the party since he will be so hated from within.

McClintock isn't listening to ANYBODY, not even the White House.
Did you see this?
===
Pleas for Mr. McClintock to quit the contest have come from a variety of sources the White House, working through surrogates in California; leading elected Republicans in the state; and the Schwarzenegger campaign. Mr. McClintock has stood fast.
"He wouldn't respond to pressure, even from the White House," said Mr. Spillane, who is not working for any gubernatorial campaign. "It's not in his nature. He's a maverick."

Yes it is true. Over zealous religious people and idealist often destroy their side of the issue by refusing to take what they can get when they can't grab all.
It is the same problem with Tombots now.
But, if not for the "all or nothing" crowd, there would be plenty of more babies around that would have been born.
Then you would still fight for the other potential abortions one at a time, instead of having to now have 97% more today.

"The actor then told McClintock the important thing is to work together on issues. McClintock extended the debate offer a final time and Schwarzenegger signed off by saying, "We will talk about all those things, and we will have a great time at the Republican convention."
One of the Arnold-bots chime in here, and explain why Arnold is afraid to debate Tom McClintock on the issues relevant to Kalifornia.
Then if you would kindly elaborate on what exactly Arnold's platform is in this gubernatorial election.
Finally, one of the Arnold-bots should explain how Arnold's positions differ from those of the Democratic candidate... Bustamante. We are all awaiting your response.. and be specific to issue.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's views in his own words:Pro Gun Control
- "I'm for gun control. I'm a peace-loving guy." (Time magazine cover story, Aug 18, 2003) When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger admitted that he is for gun control. He said he supported both the Brady Bill and the ban on so-called "assault weapons." He said, "Also I would like to close the loophole of the gun shows." When asked by the Sacramento Bee to detail his positions on gun issues (scroll down), Arnold stated that he supports legislation to ban .50-caliber rifles, force gun buyers to pass a state-defined test in order to purchase a handgun, and require load indicators or magazine safety disconnects on new semiauto handguns.
- Pro Abortion
Schwarzenegger appeared on FoxNews' "Bill O'Reilly" program in May 2001 and said he disagreed with President Bush's pro-life position. "I'm for choice," Schwarzenegger said on the program. "The women should have the choice. The women should decide what they want to do with their bodies. I'm all for that." When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger admitted again that he is "pro-choice". - Pro Gay Agenda
From Cosmopolitan magazine, "I have no sexual standards in my head that say this is good or this is bad. Homosexual-that only means to me that he enjoys sex with a man and I enjoy sex with a woman. It's all legitimate to me." He also supports gay adoption, despite the fact that both conservative Republicans and moderate Democrats voted by a 61 percent margin for Proposition 22, the Defense of Marriage Initiative, which defined marriage as that between a man and a woman. (Newsmax, 28 July 2003)
When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger admitted that he is for legalized "domestic partnerships" which would give gay couples the same benefits as marriage. - Pro Big Government Programs
Regarding the passage of Proposition 49, a big government social scheme providing funds for after school programs: "Every California child deserves access to a proven, quality, life-changing afterschool program, and now they will have it. My hope is that, as goes California, so goes the rest of our nation." When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger said that he believes that social programs should be focused on children. He said, "I think the important thing, again, is that we work on education and really make sure that the kids have the first run at our treasury."
In the same interview with Hannity, Schwarzenegger said that he supports big government programs to buy back leases as a measure to protect the environment. He said, "I think that our state government and our federal government should negotiate to buy back the leases [from the oil companies.]"
- Pro Environmentalist Agenda
When a reporter asked him in early August to detail his positions on the environment, he said "I will fight for the environment. Nothing to worry about." When interviewed on the issues by Sean Hannity on August 27th, Schwarzenegger said he did not support offshore oil drilling. He said, "No, absolutely not. I think that we should stop the oil drilling and I think that our state government and our federal government should negotiate to buy back the leases [from the oil companies.]"
- Pro Clinton/Anti Impeachment
In 1999, Schwarzenegger told George magazine of his bitterness about the frenzy over Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton and the waste of time and energy it represented. "That was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for," he said. "I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period."
- Soft on Illegal Immigration
In a radio interview with KABC radio host Larry Elder on August 27th, Schwarzenegger said that allowing illegal immigrants to stay in the United States is "the right thing to do." Last year, while campaigning for his Prop. 49 after-school programs initiative, Schwarzenegger...declared in answer to a question from the audience: "I would never stand in the way of any child going to school, whether he or she is here legally or illegally, it does not matter." (Sacramento Bee, 24 August) - Proposition 54
Proposition 54 outlaws the racial boxes Californians are constantly asked to check on state forms. Apply to a state college or enroll a child in a public school, try to get married, seek employment with any city or county, interact in any one of countless ways with the state or its political subdivisions, and you will be asked question about your race. Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, who previously refused to take a position on the measure, said Saturday he opposed it. Schwarzenegger, speaking to Spanish language station KUVS-TV in Sacramento, said he believes "it is necessary to collect racial data for use in such fields as health and education." "If you take that out, it will be disastrous," he said. FOX News, 08, August
Justin Jones, a spokesman for the Proposition 54 campaign, said he attended an invitation-only event for Schwarzenegger on Saturday at a Sacramento hotel. As the actor was moving through the room shaking hands, Jones said, he approached him in an attempt to make a short pitch for Proposition 54, but was interrupted before he could identify himself or say what side of the issue he was on.
Jones said Schwarzenegger explained that he had studied the measure and determined it was a "no-brainer" to oppose it.
Schwarzenegger went on to say he believed it important that public schools be able to identify minority children to help "bring them up to the starting line. And if the right-wing crazies have a problem with that, so be it." Ventura County Star - SB60
SB60, which Davis signed Friday and touted over the weekend as he campaigned before a Latino audience in Los Angeles, poses grave security threats and undermines existing immigration laws, according to opponents who vowed to place the matter on the March 2004 ballot. The driver's license bill has become a rallying point for both sides in the recall campaign, which increasingly is focusing on immigration and racial issues. Many Republicans charge that Davis' support for the bill, after vetoing similar measures, is a desperate attempt to bolster his support in the Latino community. A Schwarzenegger spokesman said the actor will not support the referendum campaign but will seek other other ways to repeal the legislation. San Francisco Chronicle

So, did McTickTock deliberately and knowingly participate in this juvenile, unethical, cheap-shop prank AGAINST HIS PARTY'S LEADING CANDIDATE? He is SO not ready for prime time.
If this was done knowingly, he's about shot any chance I'd ever support him in a future primary.
Less than a month away, and he's still trying to ruin his party's chance to win.
What a pathetic, clueless loser.
OK, what's his problem? Arnold said that he is going to debate him ONCE. The objective here for McClintock and the media is to hound him, and make fun of him. Due to the limited time of this campaign, Arnold doesn't have time for this kind of game. He's already campaigning, telling people what he wants to do to fix California's economy. What's wrong with one debate? Are the Tombots so mentally challenged that they need more than one debate to memorize what he says?

Am so glad that you heard the show. Looks like the more McClintock is known in CA, the less people like him.
I would have been one of those callers that was really irritated at McClintock for pulling such a stunt. The couple times I have seen him on TV, his tone and arrogance has irritated me every time. It is obvious that it is his way or no way!

McClintock doesn't even listen to the White House.
So look for the party at every turn to put a stake in the political heart of this vile politician.
The more I get to know this guy's ways, the more I am not liking him. What a miserable creep Tom McClintock is being if even the White House can't get him to listen.
Time to put him down politically. Sounds more and more like a political traitor to me every day.
McClintock has a grade school mentality, that is obvious. How sad!

I have gotten in more fights on here about abortion and how the "in your face approach" does not work with people. You take what you can get one step at a time. I had it out with a lot of people in 2000 that declared that President Bush was pro-choice because of his three allowances which is the same as ours.
The all or nothing approach is just plain stupid IMO! That is how to lose on an issue and how to lose elections. It is almost like some of these people like to lose so they can whine.
I hate losing in politics and in sports!
