In just 25 days, the people of California will choose a Governor and as a result set a course that will affect the future of the state and our country in profound ways. This thread has been created to keep us all informed of the important developments.

I invite you to post all the major recall stories here or if it has already been posted, then add links to these posts. We welcome discussions of the candidates, the issues, campaign strategy, the polls, etc. Please be civil in your comments.

If you want to be added to a ping list on the recall please freepmail me and make sure you mention that you want to be added to the "recall ping list." I will ping you once daily at the start of the thread and occasionally if there is major breaking news.

TAMMANY HALL had its house organ, the Leader. Gray Davis and Cruz Bustamante have an even better tool for communicating: the Los Angeles Times. To wit:

In November of 2000, California voters approved Proposition 34--a campaign finance reform initiative. They were urged not to do so by the Los Angeles Times, which found the measure to be insufficiently restrictive on the evil of large contributions. But voters disagreed and enacted the campaign contribution limits....

The Republican congressman called one of the Republican candidates for governor asking him to drop out of the race. Burton says he told conservative California state representative Tom McClintock that a split among Republicans could help Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante win the election for California governor if Gray Davis is recalled....
