After weeks of pressure to drop out of the recall race, state Sen. Tom McClintock is about to feel the pinch in an unlikely place: a gathering of faithful Republicans who agree with him about issues and revere him as one of the party's truest members.

And new polls suggest McClntock is now at 18%.

It's Arnold who should drop outt, not Tom.

The only one gaining in this race is McClintock.

Let's see what the polls say next week after the Republican Convention.

McClintock is the only one with any kind of plan at all.

Regards,
Joe

I'm still not clear on the reason why McClintock wants to end his political career by becoming governor. The next governor, whomever it is, will have to inflict severe pain on California residents, either by cutting services or raising taxes, or both.

I put the chances of that governor getting re-elected in 2006 at zero percent.

Any idiot can register as a republican, being one is another story.

Do you even have any idea of the positions he's taken on taxes, illegal aliens etc.?

I do, from your post it is obvious that you do not.

I'm not a Ducks Unlimited member. Cool banquets though from what I hear. I don't like candidates that are unelectable.

I am against Repubs lying like DemonRats. It seems that too much of the anti-Arnold rant includes lies. It is a simple attempt to take someone down, not an attempt to win through converting people to one's position.

You, for instance, state Arnold is "pro-illegal immigration". I do not believe this to be true. Arnold is for legal immigration, but not illegal immigration. He has made a number of statements to support this.

The LA Times poll is bogus, concocted to convince McClintock to stay in the race and thereby succeed in electing Cruz Bustamante.

The Democratic Party is leading McClitock supporters as if they were six years old.

I don't like candidates that are unelectable.

Personally, I think that a candidate running on sound conservative principles can win in California. This is especially true coming off the Gray Davis disaster.

He has made a number of statements that support making the illegals legal. He's also called anyone against the illegals getting drivers licenses "right-wing crazies".

Does that sound like a republican talking?

He's pro-gay, pro-abortion, pro-illegal and will not rule out raising taxes.

Any of that crap sound familiar to you?

It's easy to throw the word "lie" out there when you're the one doing the lying.

Can you show me a poll that demonstrates this in the current race?

You stated Arnold was a "democrat".

That is a lie. You are a liar.

Why should I believe anything that you say.

>>>Of course. Let's not kid ourselves that McClintock and his supporters wouldn't like to see Cruz as governor. That is their only goal.

I don't know if that's true and neither do you. But one thing is for sure. You and others want a liberal (RINO) Republican to become the next governor of California. That's not the objective of conservatism. The goal for conservatives, is to triumph over liberalism. A vote for Boy Davis, Bustamonte or Arnold, is a vote for liberalism and a vote against conservatism. A vote for any one of these liberals, danages the credibility of the GOP.

If Arnold was a moderate, it might be a different story. The fact is, while Arnold's politics are to the right of Davis and Bustamonte, he's definitely a left of center candidate and will govern even more left of center. Arnold's to the left of RINO's like Arlen Spector, Susan Collins, Lincoln Chaffey and Olympia Snowe. There are enough RINO's in elected office today. We don't need to be increasing their numbers and inflating the RINO population by electing another RINO to become California's next governor.

We cant expect 100% pefection for our chosen candidate. I agree with McClintock on evreything except abortion and homosexual issues, however Arnold irritates me on his views on gun control, his opposition to prop 54 and illegal immigration where he'll not send the national guard to defend the California border.

I know the state legislature will be overwelmingly Democratic for a good long time so on social issues it will be "Status Quo", so financial issues will have more importance anyways. I did vote for McClintock for controller and voted for Simon also in 2002 too.

Im waiting until October 1 to make my final choice.
[R] next to a name means nothing, I rejected several moderate and conservative Republicans in 2002 with Libertarians (Olberg and Mendoza) because they lacked conviction.

He's not as bad a man as Bustamante, who we will otherwise get.

Haha. Right... because the California GOP is a model of political efficacy.

He IS a democrat you simpleton!

Do ANY of his positions on the issues look republican to you?

Just because he's a registered republican doesn't mean jack.

Stop lying to youself and everyone else and try pulling your head out of your behind long enough to breathe some clean air.

Maybe it'll clear your mind.

Brilliant logic. Instead of throwing your support behind the man who SHOULD be governor you cower behind the idea that bustamante will win if it isn't Arnold.

The election is a month away. A lot could and should happen if people get behind the only reasonable candidate.

I am sooo upset at the Republican machine -
- got a $$ call from the RNC last night, and when I mentioned that they would get no more money from me until they stopped their flirtation with the radical homosexual lobby and start listening to their social conservative base -
- her response was "either support us or YOU are going to put Hillary Clinton and her kind in the White House" -
NO, it's you sell-outs who will put her there - same goes for Kalifornia, the sell-out Republicans will put Bustamante in office if Arnold does not drop out, NOT the social conservatives........

Maybe Arnold should drop out and back Mcl.

I have heard this a number of times and all I can say is . . . WHY? Oh yes, the gop front-runner should drop out to make way for a man who twice ran statewide and lost (it may have been a close loss, but as the old saying goes and rightly so, "close, but no cigar"). Makes immense sense {sarcasm}
