9/11/01 as the media doesn't want you to see it
I'll give the tip of the hat to USA Today. Last year (the week before the 1st
commemoration), they did a fair examination of how the media (including themselves)
had engaged in some self-censorship about the graphic details. They also did a good
investigation of how many people did choose to jump (rather than burn) and published
a few breath-taking photos of those souls.
I'm sure some of the mainstream media is dealing in moderate revisionism,
but I suspect many sectors are doing it to
1. be kind to the sensitivities of surviving family/friends
2. not be accussed of inciting mainstream America to go after Muslim neighbors.
Thanks to the Internet, I suspect some years from now, the revisionsists will
face challenges that they wouldn't have even 10 years ago.

Yeah, by next year we'll be in the homestretch of a presidential campaign and the media will do everything possible to avoid reminding us of 9/11/01 (and the anthrax attacks).

Fair enough, and my apologies for getting a little heated. I also guess it's fair to say that L.A. is a "different planet," LOL!

As I've been telling "biblewonk," I'd buy that argument if there weren't literally hundreds of examples of the media showing blood and gore, and not giving a dam about anyone's sensitivities. "Biblewonk" pointed out that it may be a matter of where one lives. I live in the Los Angeles media market where local programming is frequently interrupted for non-stop live coverage of often-deadly police car chases. They NEVER worry about the sensitivity of any family members who happen to have the news on while their loved one's car suddenly gets smashed by a fleeing jackass running from the cops.

This was not a disaster. Not a catastrophe. Not an act of God. I agree. I think the word you are looking for is atrocity.
Shalom.

Most definitely and that's one word the media rarely has used to describe what happened that day.

My wife and I watched "9/11: The President's Story" last night and were talking about that very issue.

I don't know if anyone else has addressed your post, but I will.
The root causes of terrorism are not poverty, disease, or environmental degradation.
Terror has one root, one cause. It's called Islam.

Thanks, carton253. All of the hijackers were wealthy. Bin Laden is extremely wealthy. The Arab world sits on top of enormous oil wealth. What do they do with it except spend enormous resources subjugating their own people and fostering hate for everyone else.

Retribution is meant to send a powerful message to others that...... the certain knowledge that fanatical acts will bring retribution to the fanatics themselves,.....I agree with your post and its intent. To make doing what they did result in the horrible death of their kith and kin. I don't think these people are sane enough to care what happens to them, their families or their country. The only caution I have about retribution is that we may run out of ammunition. But, having said that, I am in favor of "Nukeing" Mecca, if the Muslims don't turn in Bin Laden and Saddam Heussein (who I believe had a part in 9/11).

HI CC: You are so right. I watched from the time I got up at 4am until late last night and noticed not one network showed the buildings actually even being hit by the planes, just the smoke later... I commented about it to my boyfriend. I expected that, though. I just hope WE NEVER FORGET!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR PRESIDENT WHO BELIEVES IN GOD!!!
