The media would love to show you those pictures but they actually have too much class to do it. After 911 the media was the most important people in town, now they are pretty boring.

Kayak, you are so right in noting the distinction between the way the media covered Oklahoma City when it first happened, and the way it covered 9/11. With the former, I vividly remember bloodied babies being shown on TV over and over. That heartbreaking photo of tiny Baylee Almon (sp?) dead in the arms of the fireman was flashed around the world long before anyone identified that baby or worried about the impact of that photo on her parents.

ChemistCat is right. The BEST way we civilians can fight back at this time is to work like the dickens to reelect President Bush. Take our rage out in going down to our local campaign HQ's when they open, and do whatever is needed. The second best way is to learn a skill that might be useful, or to volunteer in some way that might help our service men and women.

I linked two sites at the top of this tread. They are where I found these photos. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of sites that containt 9/11 photos, but finding some that actually show the attacks on a human scale is difficult.

Ever hear the song Dirty Laundry. I think that's what it's called. If the media was as low as they are often painted, they'd show a lot more horrible things then they ever do.

No, I never heard the song. As for showing horrible things, the media does, and often every day in the Los Angeles media market where I live. They cover police chases at the drop of a hat — chases which often result in horrible, deadly crashes. They've shown people being smashed in the head with cement blocks live, in real time, during the L. A. riots 10 years ago (and the person with the camera and helicopter did squat to help). Dead bodies in the streets are a staple of local news here. Yet with 9/11 it's all this "like a movie" crap, which serves to dehumanize the attacks. Showing the truth about the human cost brings the attacks down to a human scale.

PS: During the protracted O. J. Simpson saga, the media showed the bloody crime scene, and shots of the bodies of Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman countless times. So don't speak to me of media "class." I'd laugh in your face if you were standing in front of me.

PPS: At the end of one police chase a few years ago, some suicidal guy set his pickup truck on fire — with his dog still inside on the front seat for all to see. Then he took a shotgun and went out in the middle of a freeway where he kept the police at bay for some time while he treatened to kill himself. Eventually he blew his head off. All of this was shown live, in real time, on our local TV stations. The only part that was edited out for later repeated showings on the news was when he killed himself.
