AFTER 12-YEAR STRUGGLE, MISSOURI SENATE OVERRIDES HOLDEN'S VETO TO PASS LICENSE-TO-CARRY INTO LAW!

The Missouri Senate has JUST NOW OVERRIDDEN GOV. BOB HOLDEN'S VETO OF LICENSE-TO-CARRY, by the narrow margin of 23 to 11!

23 votes were required to override, and we barely made it -- but we made it.

We were helped out in key swing votes by Senator Jon Dolan, who flew in from military duty in Cuba for this and the abortion override vote, and also by Senator Michael Gibbons, who voted against the original bill. No one knew until today how Senator Gibbons would cast his vote.

These are certainly not the only Senators who deserve to be thanked. Senator Harold Caskey, Democrat Senator from District 31, has swum against the tide of many of his colleagues to provide tremendous, courageous leadership in this issue. Senators Peter Kinder and Sarah Steelman also come to mind as prominent supporters. And those who passed the override in the House deserve to be thanked as well, because without them we would never have reached this point.

That's Jdege's map. I just had to modify the Missouri color and the numbers.

He also has a moving graphic that tells the year the various states passed their CCW laws.

I find myself staring at the maps too. I keep wishing for Wisconsin to passs theirs. No offense to the people of Illinois since I still have relatives there but I want a mass exodus of criminals moving into Little Richie Daley's Chicago after Wisconsin passes their CCW law.

I do feel sorry for the people of East St. Louis. They're going to have a lot of trouble when the criminals cross the river for easier pickings.

Just look at how they're treating the pilots like CR@P these days to get a glimpse of how a Federal CCW system would be run. "Want a qualifying class? It's 80 hours long, and held every June 31 in Death Valley, Arizona."

Now isn't Wisconsin only one of 5 that don't have Concealed Carry?

Yes.

You know Doyle will Veto it, but can we override the veto?,after the property-tax freeze I have my doubts.

The numbers will be -almost- there to do an override. Remember that the Democrats in the rural north of the state do tend to be pro-gun. The rumor that I have heard is that Doyle will not veto if there it passes by a lot. But he won't sign it either. I think the law is such that if he lets it sit on his desk for 30 days, it's a defacto signature, and the bill would become law. So Doyle wouldn't get the wrath of the NRA, nor the wrath of the liberals.

It'll pass with the help of rural Democrats. I think Jim Doyle will let it become law without his signature. He doesn't want the humiliation of an override in his first term.

I saw one. It was a parking lot in Downtown Lansing. I THINK the State Employees credit union also has one, although I don't know that for a fact.

If a business wants to post a gun free zone, I'll simply take my business elsewhere and put them in the same spot as Tyson Chicken(Klinton lover), Walmart(Klinton and China), or KMart.

Actually, there are a large number of Dems in Wis. Legislature who are pro-gun rights. Doyle will not use the muscle he used on the tax item--partly because this issue is not as important to Doyle as was maintaining the confiscatory tax system.

I noticed the CCW bills are still going through the hearings. I guess it takes a couple of months to go through the process.

"Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat, declined Tuesday to say whether he would veto the bill should it reach his desk, though he restated his opposition to the measure. The bill would need approval from both houses of the Legislature and Doyle to become law." AP

If he's smart, He'll sign.

In lieu of the US SC declaring ALL gun laws to be unconstitutional, I would like to see a federal Reciprocity Law put on the books now so that states like California and a few others, might be persuaded to alter their current laws to "shall issue". I won't hold my breath, however.

Nothing lately on the Ohio courts.

Ohioans for Concealed Carry Inc. is still trying to get the Highway Patrol on board with the CCW law.

California currently has a "may issue" law which means that if you live in the liberal counties (like I do) then you can get a permit only if you are a) a movie star, b)a state or federal politician or c) donate lots of money to the county sheriff's re-election fund.

If one lives in the "outlying" rural counties, it is for all practical purposes, a "shall issue" law. Considering the neo-Nazi state legislature its a wonder we have any CCW at all.

That's why a federal CCW law as such, is not desirable. But a reciprocity law that says that your Missouri permit is valid if you travel to Oklahoma would be O.K. as long as the feds didn't try to stick more hurdles in the path, like telling states how to run their traning programs (some don't require training at all).

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If we could get a Constitutional amendment passed that said (and this is just off the top of my head); "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed", then the whole issue of CCW permits would be moot.
