Mother arrested after five children found living in squalor

(9/10/03 – LEAGUE CITY, TX) — League City police arrested a mother of five after her children were found living in deplorable conditions.

Twenty-nine-year-old Brandy Crider is charged with five counts of endangering a child. Police were tipped off by the children's father, who suspected they were living in a filthy apartment. Police investigated and found he was right.

They discovered spoiled food, animal feces and drug paraphernalia all over the apartment. Despite the conditions, police were surprised to find how well the children were doing.

Sgt. Glenn McCann of the League City PD said, "Fortunately, all the kids appear to be healthy and well cared for. They were clean and they were clothed."

All five children are with foster parents this morning. Crider is in jail on a $50,000 bond while Children’s Protective Services investigates the case.

Chances are, he didn't have custody because the courts are under the delusion that the mother can do no wrong. Notice how the children are farmed out to "foster homes" rather than to the father... could be for a variety of reasons, but the fact that the father was concerned enough to ask the Police to investigate is a big point in his favor.

It's unfortunate that a man can be a stand-up guy, pay his support, and do visitation... but a crack-whore mom will usually receive custody due to bias in the family courts.

Does spoiled food mean an old banana in the fridge

Does animal feces mean the cat box has a piece of dung outside

Does drug paraphernalia mean a bong on the coffee table..

Or is it much, much, worse, in which case, how could the kids be doing so well???

Could be anything. The article stated that stuff was found all over the apartment. One bad banana, cat poop in a box, and a bong on the coffee table probably doesn't add up to squalid living conditions.

Or, he could just be one of those control freaks who doesn't give a damn about the kids, just wants to punish their mommy. I know a woman in a similar situation - hubby cheated and beat her; she showed him the door; he married the new honey and fought childcare payments all the way, then suddenly decided he wanted the kids again. Because he was consistently late with childcare payments, she and the kids were existing on pennies. And THEN he tried using her poverty level (that HE created) against her in a custody battle.

Could be the same situation in this story. Of course, she obviously isn't Suzy Homemaker, but who knows what part he may have played in it?

Well, the cat pooped outside the litter pan this morning, I left the anti-histamines out in the kitchen and the fridge sorely needs a thorough clean-out. I wonder if they'll come and take my kids away too.
