Washington H.S. Bans Cheerleaders' Skirts

Hoping to ward off the distraction of bare adolescent thighs, Elma High School has banned its cheerleaders' short skirts from hallways and classrooms.

The move has members of the cheerleading and drill teams, and their parents — some of whom wore similar skirts years ago — steaming.

"Elma has dropped back to the Dark Ages," Kathy Shaw, whose daughter is on the drill team. "They are making our kids feel like they're not nice girls when they are."

For years, the brief blue-and-white skirts have been exempt from the dress code at this small town west of Olympia on days when the teams were scheduled to play. Now they'll be allowed only at games and other performances — not in the hallways.

"What the high school decided is that the dress code would apply to everyone equally," Elma School Superintendent Tami Hickle said. Officials from the high school itself would not comment.

On Friday, the first day the ban took effect, drill team member Katie Schouweiler wore her team sweater and "very ugly" warm-up pants.

Schouweiler said the girls look "very clean cut wearing our uniforms" and doesn't see the rare exception to the dress code as a big deal.

What these blue noses just don't seem to understand is that boys are distracted by girls regardless of what they're wearing. Particularly if the girls are athletic and pretty.

What's next? Only allowing fat ugly cheerleaders?

I agree that there should be standards of dress in schools. I mean, skirts are one thing, but shorts cut up to your buttcrack simply are another. But you're also right that boys will always be distracted by pretty girls.

Good idea. While we are at it, ban thongs and bras.

Yeah but they usually make 'em wear boring underwear under those skirts.

I will have to be careful with this post lest I give out too much info.

About 12 years ago, I took photos of sporting events for the local newspaper and also for the school. I was not really a pro photographer and my only pay was free film and free admission to the games. I even had to pay for the developing. I also wrote a few articles and was paid as a stringer. In other words for the amount of space my articles and pictures took up.

I did not do my own processing and used the local drugstore. They had next day processing and the prints always came back with the best shot of the roll displayed in front of the free album they provided.

When I picked up one roll, the clerk who always opened the envelope and took out a slip of paper sort of grinned at me as she handed me the pics.

When I got home I noticed that some clown at the processing lab had put a pic of the head cheerleader doing a high kick in the front of the album. Just as plain as day she was showing too much skin if you know what I mean. The funny thing is I don't think it would have been noticeable if the shutter and flash had not caught her at the exact instant it did.

Of course I didn't use that one or even let my wife see it.

Fine by me. Now if they'll ban cheerleaders and drill team from all the T&A wiggling in such a way as to need a pole. If you haven't been to a HS game in the last decade then go, it'll be any eye-popping experience.

I want to know which parents grandparents approved their little darling's uniform with "CHEER" across the buttocks.

One of the best things about high school were game days when the cheerleaders wore their outfits. Had one of them with a locker right next to me. Everytime I walked up on her I would flip the back of her skirt-up. She would squeel and say "Stop it" each time. It's one of my fondest memories...And probably hers.

These prudes are as bad as liberals.

Nope, nothing suggestive about cheerleading.

I bet they can still wear their low low low rider jeans

At a youth group gathering there was a girl, no older than 14, who's was so low dirty old fathers were breaking their necks trying to get a better look at the hairs showing.
