Euthanasia proposed for under 18s
19 June 2003
BRUSSELS Flemish Liberal Senator Jeannine Le-Duc has announced plans to propose an extension of Belgium's euthanasia law to allow the procedure for those under the age of 18.
Those under the age of 18 feel pain in exactly the same way as their elders, Le-Duc told the Gazet van Antwerpen.
Francophone politicians have said themselves open to the idea of discussion surrounding a reduction in age to 16, but no less.
Euthanasia for a seven-year-old kid theres no way, Liberal Senator Philippe Monfils told La Libre Belgique.
Earlier in the week, the future Belgian government called for hospitals across the country to be prepared to administer euthanasia with a specialised group of medical staff on call at all times.
World Net Daily article here
"One lawmaker said euthanasia is the business of a doctor and a patient, and hospitals should not interfere".

The Catholic hospitals better stand firm on this one.

They can do it. They should announce that they will close rather than comply with such evil and arrogant governmental over-reaching. No nation with an established Catholic health care system could cope with all the hospitals closing their doors on the same day.
I think any politician who would propose such a law deserves to be hanged by a lynch mob. This is completely outside the realm of what government should be permitted to do.

Doctors will be given a protected status for performing euthanasia. "My name is Bond. Doctor Bond. ID 007 -- the 00 indicates my license to kill."

I'm torn on this issue. I saw my father die when he was mercifully given morphine and given fluids only until he died. This was in Seattle, Washington 8 years ago. So it happens here too, just not talked about alot.

Yes, they'd better, what is their history with abortion over there?
Wow, to fear to go to Beligium, lest one be struck ill and be done away with. What a funny feeling. I wouldn't set foot in that country as things stand right now.
It gets harder and harder to see how all this death mongering represents "progress", or at least progress towards anything good.

The "right to die" will
inevetibly become the
obligation to die.
"Now, Mr. Jones, you know these hospital bills are putting a great strain on your loved ones who see their inheritence dwindling by the hour. Why don't you do the right thing and sign the forms and put an end to your misery. After all, it's your right."

Europeans don't even see that this is the Nazi nightmare all over again. "My government says murder is OK. What am I to do? It is not I who am pulling the trigger, so I am not guilty -- and if I do pull the trigger, what of it? I am only following orders."
They have learned nothing.

Yes, they'd better, what is their history with abortion over there? Not legalized until 1990. In an unusual move, the late King Baudouin abdicated for 24 hours rather than sign the bill (some acting head of state did).

Will hospitals defying this mandate be closed?
Looks like the EU has found "the final solution" for the financial burden of its aging population. All those who "feel pain" will be shown the ultimate door -- except for "seven year-olds," because, of course, they can't yet publicly foster the idea of euthanasia for defective children -- but give them time to keep shaving the limits.

Thanks. I had a cat named Skooz years ago. He died of Feline Leukemia just before my junior year of college. I decided to honor the old guy with a screen name.

Thank God your father was given fluids. Dehydration of the disabled is becoming more and more commonplace in this country right now.
For those who are dying soon and are given pain relief, I think this is appropriate medicine.
However the realities are that people like your father ( and mine earlier this year, btw) are being treated. Other people are simply being discarded because they are a burden to society and sometimes to family members.
The same view - that we are "allowing" them to die - is being used to kill people who, in many cases, have stated that they want to live, are not dying or terminal, and often are using wheelchairs to get around on their own.
You can read some of the links on my FRpage if you want to learn more. Currently in Florida, a woman disabled but responsive is probably about to be killed by having her feeding tube removed because she has a serious brain injury.
Even though she smiles, looks at and recognizes people, and her parents are willing to care for her, her husband has gone to court to have her killed.
See Terri for more about her. Her last chance for life is a hearing in just a few days. She will suffer as she dies from dehydration, it is a cruel death to impose on someone. So if you pray, please remember her in your prayers.
