DEAUVILLE, France - Roman Polanski finally took home his Academy Award statue for best director this weekend, nearly six months after winning for "The Pianist."
Harrison Ford, a friend of Polanski and the star of his 1988 movie "Frantic," handed the director the prize Sunday at the Deauville film festival. Ford also had announced Polanski's win at the March 23 ceremony in Los Angeles, which the director didn't attend.
Polanski faces arrest in the United States since pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl. He was charged with rape and five other felonies in 1977.
As part of a deal with prosecutors, Polanski pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with a minor, then fled Los Angeles for Paris in 1978 to evade sentencing.
The 70-year-old is presiding over the jury at Deauville, on the Normandy coast.
"The Pianist" won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and also earned Oscars for best adapted screenplay and best actor. Adrien Brody starred as Polish-Jewish pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman, who eluded the Nazis in the Warsaw ghetto.

The moral relativist argument for awarding the academy award to rapists of children:
Mr. Polanski, You Are Forgiven Here Comes The Hate Mail "Let us remember, dear readers, that this 13-year-old had visited with Polanski before, submitted willingly to nude photography, and even shared a hot teb session with the Polish director. And unless this young teen was selling Girl Scout cookies or subscriptions to Tiger Beat, she had to know what a visit to a famous Hollywood director's house would entail. It would be like visiting Bob Evans and not expecting to see his cock at some point in the evening. It may not be acceptable in a post-feminist world to blame the victim as it were, but Roman was only doing what anyone with even a partial ability to achieve erection would do when faced with hot young flesh of the teenage variety. Hell, I'd condemn the man had he instead brought her milk and cookies and tucked her in for the night. This is Roman Polanski, remember, a man who lost his parents in the Holocaust and later his wife and child to the Manson family. The man is entitled to cop a feel now and again, even if our archaic laws forbid the practice. When your wife is stabbed three dozen times and you watch as your unborn child is scraped off the wall, let me know if you react "normally." Judge not, sanctimonious pr*cks."

I guess you wouldn't mind then if your 14yo daughter became a groupie and started having sex.....14 is still below the age of consent.

Girls used to marry at 14
People used to buy, keep, and sell slaves.
In India children can still be married at 5 years old. In New Jersey at 15 you can be a consenting sexual prtner. In Nevada you can marry at 16. In California you can marry your first cousin. Many high profile industries still thrive on labor camps and 3rd world sweatshops. All this is beside the point. If the girl consented and knew that it was wrong, then it is not rape, if he forced, coerced, or manipulated her to have sex then it is. Is she a child? I personally would consider her a teenager and the crime should have been stagitory (splng??) rape.

The girl was 14, as was Juliet when having her affair with Romeo. Yes, but Romeo wasn't 45.
Perhaps you've heard of the concept of "Statutory Rape"?

Sorry, my most likely libertarian friend, but you can't even pull that argument out of your hat.
The record, which was reproduced at the Smoking Gun, indicated that Polanski drugged the girl first, got her drunk, and then raped her forcefully. This was not some "little tease," who "wanted" what she got.

The man is entitled to cop a feel now and again, even if our archaic laws forbid the practice. What an ass. I suppose he thinks Sharia law is just fine and dandy, too. Not to mention the preposterous idea that suffering evil justifies rape (statutory or not), and then evasion of prosecution.
To: JHrules
Children can not give informed consent. And this one certainly couldn't since the asshole Polanski plied her with drugs and alcohol before he raped her.

For the record she was 13, not 14, not 17 and a half, 13.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks.
It's one thing to find yourself working together with some undesirable in the workplace (we've all been there), but it's quite another to help deliver his Acadamy Award, because he can't return to U.S. without going to jail. Ford is a major loser; I have definately no time to waste on another movie of his. So long to another hollyweirdo.

"But befriending, honoring and posing for pictures with a convicted child molester?"Birds of a feather flock together. Isn't Ford dating actress Casista Flockhart almost 30 years his junior. If that's not robbing the cradle I don't know what is.

i've heard that's urban legend. regardless, running trains can't be that hard.Ask John Coretti, my boyhood friend. We used to play chicken and he tripped. Coretti had a hard head but no contest with a train.
By the way, miraculously, he survived.

The Pianist blew chunks. What a horrible, smarmy, shockingly stupid movie.

Hm. I can't really understand why conservatives are always so "shocked" that Hollywood is full of perverted liberals. It's been the case pretty much from the start--try reading a bio of Chaplin or Keaton.

what is the age of consent??? I know we all often use and hear the term "consenting adults" but if we put the "adult" label on doesn't that indicate that there is a "non adult" capable of consenting? Can a 17 year old be of sound enough mind to consent to something? What about a 16 year old? Does a 15 year old have enough knowledge of the way things work to consent to something?
HAS EVERYONE HERE NEVER HAD SEX BEFORE HE/SHE WAS 18??
I first had sex at 12, and continued through highschool, married at 23 and remain marrried atoday at 30. What is the difference between 2 14 or 15 year olds having sex and a 45 year old and a consenting minor who knows the consequences?
At age 17 I was sleeping with my science teacher age 27. No fixed grades, just fun.

Indeed, one has to differentiate the artist and his creation.

Polansky's escapade can almost be considered "mild" when compared to some of the other of Tinseltown's criminal escapades.
Simply, Polansky is a despicable person who has made some fine films. Polansky like Ford and other self styled "artistes" have always gotten a free pass from the media and even the public when it comes to morals charges.

It was a good movieSo what! That negates the fact that Polanski was charged with rape and FIVE other felonies and fled the country to France, a country that he knew he could fight extradition.
Same thing with Ira Einhorn the founder of Earth Day. He was charged with the murder of his girlfriend Holly Maddux, who rotted in a trunk in his apartment. He fled the U.S. and showed up in France. He continues to live there and fight extradition back to the U.S.
So apparently if you are a rapist or murderer, flee to France, they'll protect you from facing trial in the U.S.
Polanski and France belong together.
Ford is a Hollywood actor. What do you expect from him befriending Polanski. I rarely am surprised anymore of anything that comes out of Hollywood anymore. It just doesn't shock me anymore. They are all freaks.

Child-rape rfers to what is called a statutory rape: this does not imply that he used force, but that any sexual itercourse with someone underage is considered NOT concentual.
If you suggest that a 14-yeaold has sexual desires and can be a mistress and a mother, your point is well taken: it indeed used to be the case that women were married at 14 and Muslims and Hindus still adhere to that practice.
