Furman University's loss last week of a chance to host a nationally televised Democratic presidential debate is part of the fallout from the Greenville County Council's refusal to OK a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and more is coming, holiday backers warn. Opponents of a holiday for the slain civil right leader scoff.

If there has to be a holiday for MLK, when are we going to have one for Karl Marx?

What do you think Labor Day is?

This is good stuff. It provides al sharpton with a club to beat his drum with in South Carolina. The more noise al make's the hotter it gets for the rest of the rats.

No, no, we can't let the employees CHOOSE what holiday(s) they want, because they might choose wrong! We must take that choice away from them because we have to have a holiday for St. Martin!
For being "pro-choice," Democrats sure do want to restrict a lot of our choices.
BTW, the tourism boycott is a joke. Nobody cares. The only people it's hurt have been--wait for it--black-owned businesses on the Sea Islands that depend on black tourism. Nice job, NAACP.

Why should the city council revisit an issue that its employees said "no" to? This sounds like another antic from Jesse "Shakedown" Jackson to get his way. Further, the opportunity supposed "lost" was a chance to compete. There was no guarantee that it would even get the debate. That's like buying a lottery ticket for the chance to win. No guarantees of winning. Hang in there Greenville City Council and employees!! Stand up for what you believe in.
