Yes, the economy was bad in the 90's. My husband and I were victims of the mine closings in Indiana and had to look for new careers. (He was a mining engineer.) However, economic problems in the 90's were ignored, since Clinton had said we were creating a boom economy, which as far as I can tell was mostly smoke and mirrors.

My point, however, was that to ignore the impact of the terrorist attacks is simply foolish. It was an additional hit to the economy, and a very large one.

President Bush proved once again why so many Americans love him as our president. He continues to rally the people during a time of crisis. If one were to listen to the liberal media and the Democrats, one would gather that we are losing the war in Iraq. Fact is, the war with Iraq has been over since major combat operations ceased on May 1st. The challenge we now face in Iraq is another front in the war on terror, just as President Bush explained last night in his address to the American public.

Howard Dean and the Democratic candidates continue to attack President Bush and are playing politics in appealing to their anti-war supporters on the anti-American fringe left. Now their position is to abandon the people of Iraq, leaving them to face a bloody civil war. We are so close to the prize: A democratic Iraq. Imagine the impact this will have on the politically unstable Middle East. To show weakness now would only play into the hands of the terrorists and would ultimately invite more attacks. Like wild animals, they sense and prey on weakness. How can we expect these Democrats to lead us? They lack conviction, strength, and vision.

fight terrorism on our front lawns and town squares.

MEG: you have discovered billbears' solution to terrorism. Although there is no ideal way to spend money on defense, and no perfect solution, we must try whatever we can to prevent the scenerio above. The costs are too great if we ignore the problem. I am still amazed that the billbears of the world can't figure out that the AlQueda camps in Iraq were there with Hussein's blessing ... would he have acted so benignly if those were US military training bases? I'm also amazed that they can ignore all the hollow artillery shells and other chem/bio handling equipment... sigh... i guess that's what it takes to be third party or Demodog.

Peach, Mo1, Mass55th: thank you for your kudos.

arete: you must be a pea brain.

Miss Marple: you are sometimes far too polite.

I would certainly join such a party if it reached critical mass... [nevertheless] ... W and the GOP will get my vote for the foreseeable future.

LS: I have great respect for your thought processes and attitudes about these things. Up to now, the GOP has kept pace with the right-center of the American people. If they fail to continue to follow the march rightward, a viable third party can and probably will result.

I've enjoyed the banter with all of you this morning. Sad to say, I've got to run now.

You're right, but I had to shorten and paraphrase to fit in the tag line space (quotation marks wouldn't fit either). I'll remove it if GWB complains!!

What a horrible night. As you might remember, I had company yesterday and kept mentioning that he was to address the nation at 9:00 p.m. Turned on the TV at 8:50 p.m. to be sure I'd be front and center when it started and was shocked to catch the tail end. Assumed (foolish me) it would be replayed on C-span later in the evening but they had a replay of the seven dwarves panderfest. To top it off, I have been looking ALL WEEK for "DC 9/11" to air and wouldn't you know it -- it aired at 8:00 p.m. last night on Showtime and I only saw the last 20 minutes. Fortunately Showtime plans to show it twice a day until 9/11 so I hope to catch it in it's entirety. Here's hoping you get Showtime to catch a fabulous show.

Jeepers, Defender2! Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience on the front lines of the war on terror!!! Indeed, those who are trying to prevent this righteous campaign need to get out of the way and let this country and her people be secured by the true patriots.

Let me guess.......you read through the speech, looking for 'proof' of WMD, and when you didn't see any, you decided there was no 'substance' to it. Is that about it?

The purpose of the speech was to help Americans understand that we must 'stay the course' in Iraq, that we are making good progress, and that it is central to the overall war on terror.

It was also to reassure the IRAQI's that we will not abandon them.

It was a 15 minute speech that did exactly what it was intended to do........and I hope he makes similar speeches on a regular basis, to keep the facts on the table, rather than the leftist media bias that the American people are seeing every day.

btw, are you going to be man enough to admit that you were wrong when the WMD's are found, or it is revealed that they have already been found?

Fineman says Dean will challenge the speech How intuitive as Dean was on both The Today Show and Good Morning America, in their very first segment. Unfortunately Condi was their first guest and couldn't correct Dean's misstatements. Both Gibson and Couric pointedly asked why no mention of WMD's (and we're to believe they're not getting Talking Points) and I sit here praying they all have egg on their faces when the report is released.

Try a DAILY email - you would be amazed what happens. To be reminded day after day after day of how terrible they are - then hit up the sponsors of the news - that is almost a guarantee of change - I'm telling you - these liberals are scared to death of conservatives!!

Interesting idea... Thanks!

Look, in the 1850s, we saw the "right" party, the Whigs, disintegrate (along with two others, the "Free-soil," "no-nothings" and then fold in members of the old "Liberty" party) virtually overnight. That was because a new party, the Republicans, had a clear statement of ideals that took the main planks of the Whigs, but put on top the most pressing danger to the nation, slavery, which everyone was afraid to talk about.

Both parties today are so much larger and better organized that I really can't see this happening---but it is possible if the GOP, for example, doesn't soon address immigration. It is already the only pro-life party out there---pro-life and drugs are the two main reasons I am NOT a Libertarian. If the GOP "gets it" that controlling our borders is a central part of the "war on terror" and the economy, it would take off like a rocket. Nevertheless, it would also REORGANIZE both parties, as many pro-free-immigration people would abandon the GOP for the Dems, and many unionists would come over in support.

Barring that, the only hope I have that the GOP will get more conservative is with a dedicated, state-by-state takeover of the national committee, and that will not happen while W is president due to his personal character, fundraising, and likeability factor.

Yah, interesting, Bush has almost said, "while I care about the economy, the economy be damned---there won't BE an economy if we get 2-3 more 9/11s, and it AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN ON MY WATCH."

Oh you bet, and you can tell he is thinking this by all the actions he has taken since 911 to control our borders and make all these tremendous immigration reforms, to ensure security within our country. Thank God we no longer have hundreds of thousands of people entering our country illegally, and I feel much safer....

Joe, beat it.

What's the matter, did I ring your bell? Did I blow your home land security argument into next week? Can't take the real truth about our so called Home Land Security? There is no home land security, and only the blind thinks there is.

Nothing would make YOU feel safer, short of putting up Roman-style guard posts all along the border (hint: it didn't do Rome a bit of good).

So lets just roll over and die? Allow Mexico to take over the United States? Should we continue to pander to them and giver them benefits and demand that the tax payers pay for them. Should we do like Bush and Home Land Security Boss Tom Ridge and stick our heads in the sand every time someone mentions that hundreds of thousands are entering our country illegally from God knows where? As our own country is being totally over run, Bush is getting ready to dump almost a trillion dollars into the god forsaken medieval country of Iraq. LOL!

Just don't answer another one of my posts, because you have nothing constructive to say.

Don't give me this juvenile bull sh*t. You want to throw your views out on a public forum? Expect to get responses. Don't act like such a weak little girl.
