[history]
The 1994 ban on assault weapons expires next year and with its renewal hardly guaranteed, gun-control advocates plan to keep the pressure on Congress.
But so far, none of the Democratic Party's presidential candidates has made gun-control a major thrust of the campaign, further dimming the prospects of passage of a tougher ban.

There has been no dramatic incident to justify its renewal. And Democrats are still smarting over the losses they've taken in states where guns are as familiar in people's lives as religion. That's why they're keeping quiet. There's just no political appeal in pushing ahead with something that will cost you more votes than it will gain you. DiFi and California love gun control but its pretty much a loser in the rest of the country.

Like they say, the most effective gun control is using two hands.

I agree that it's a loser for the RATS which is why I hope a few of the hardcore gungrabbers on the left try and make it an issue next year. In 2000, Algore started his campaign calling for mandatory registration and other draconian measures. By the end of the campaign, he was being forced to run ads claiming he was really pro-2nd Amendmant(BS) to try and salvage Pennsylvania and Michigan.

And listen to the deafening silence from the republicats. They're now no better than the right-wing of the demoncraps. I'm gone - farther to the right. Democracy is the rule of fools by fools.

Chump!

Hey, Algore! Because of the stupid Brady Law, I have to drive 20 miles to the gun store, make my purchase, do the paperwork, and drive 20 miles back home, wait 24 hours, and go back and forth again the next day. All of this for a .22 rifle! I have a big pickup truck with a big engine, so bite me all you stupid envirowacko gun grabbers!

P.S. When I buy a gun at the Bass Pro Shop, it's 90 miles round trip, so suck my tailpipe!

If HRC runs for President next year, the Repulicans in Congress will pass and GW will sign, at the least, an extension of the current AWB, if not a worse one.
They are, after all, the party of Lincoln.

No, nothing has changed in the Republican Party in the last 140 or so years. If you believe that, then you must be a Dimmycrat.

Correct on all points. And who can forget "Sportsmen for Gore", what a joke.
And all you CWP holders remember this, if not for the courage of the USSC and Ms Harris, the batf would have been around too see you by now.

""I am morally outraged that we have to convince elected officials that renewing the assault-weapons ban is a good idea," Mr. Miller said." Gun control is fascism, Mr. Miller. We the People take the high ground on having reason to be morally outraged. Perhaps you got off the boat at the wrong port of call?
To: ABG(anybody but Gore)
All the Democratic candidates support the ban on assault weapons and all oppose a bill pending in Congress that would protect gun manufacturers from being sued if their products are used in crimes. I thought this silly notion had already been shot down by a court.
All we have to fear are the legions of voting sucker-moms who are courted by limpwristed, spaghetti-spined, feminized, and emotional, democrat males.

If they have Hillary as an opponent, the pubs probably will let the new version pass, thinking we have no where to go but them, given the obvious horror of a Hilarius presidency.
I don't care who the options are, if it is renewed, I will vote against the pubs at all levels.

"I don't care who the options are, if it is renewed, I will vote against the pubs at all levels." If this is renewed, I will be withdrawing my support for any politician. The Estrada fiasco was a bad omen.

Democracy is the rule of fools by fools. Fools also believe the US is a democracy. It is not. It is a representative republic.

Fret not...the CommieLib scumbags will never let it sunset without a fight. They know that if they can get enough media attention, maybe stage a highly visible shooting or two, the Pubbies will be too busy wetting themselves in the corner to stand up for the RKBA. But next fall is still a bit too far off the radar screen for the the 'Rats. Look for a push beginning next spring.

I would describe it as a Khakistocic oligarchic plutocracy. If you believe that and you don't start a revolution or at least blow things up you are a sissy.
