BEIJING (Reuters) - A North Korean biological weapons expert has been detained while trying to slip into the Australian consulate in China's southern city of Guangzhou to seek political asylum, an anti-Pyongyang activist said on Saturday.

Norbert Vollertsen, a German doctor-turned-activist, said plainclothes security agents had detained Ri Chae Woo, who planned to testify in the United States against Pyongyang's chemical and biological weapons program.
Vollersten, quoted on a human rights Web site, said Li had evidence of human experiments in North Korea (news - web sites).
"He (Ri) was disguised in the uniform of maintenance staff of the building which houses the consulate," Vollertsen said in a statement on the Chosun Journal Web site, which promotes human rights in North Korea.
"He was apprehended in the fire escape stairwell. His family members escaped via a nearby fast food restaurant and are at large."
The Australian consulate and Chinese authorities were not immediately available for comment.

No No, this is bad. Was trying to escape to the Austrailian embassy to defect. Now the Chinese caught him and will probably return him to North Korea where he will be executed.

This is the kind of diplomatic incidents that keeps coming and getting more and more irritable to Beijing. N Korea caused the trouble but China is thrown into the spotlight and always caught in a lose-lose situation. This is just another reason why Beijing is getting upset with Kim.

I don't feel sorry for China; their human rights record isn't that great itself. They're screwing with us on the juchefruit card.

They have us by the short hairs. Are our politicians going to cut off their dirt-cheap exports to to us? Our retail economy would collapse. I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, it is a bad PR for a country which is going to host 2008 Beijing Olympics and wants to be seen as an emerging global leader.

"Archeology Professor Robert Burns is on location leading an important dig in the ancient ruins on the Far Eastern Chinese border. He accidentally discovers that the Chinese Mafia, the Tong, is using his newly discovered ancient Chinese artifacts to hide and smuggle narcotics across the border. Robert immediately tries to flee with his assistant and narrowly manages to escape the pursuing Tong but not without a heavy price. His loyal assistant is killed and he is framed with the evidence at the Chinese border by the Chinese military and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. [!!!] He is locked up in a Chinese prison where he is guilty until proven innocent. His loving wife Maya vows to help get him out of jail. The DEA finally convinces the Chinese military that Robert may be of more help to them outside jail by leading them to the real smugglers. Once he leaves his Chinese prison cell Robert would rather enjoy his freedom back in the U.S. and keep his past behind him, but The Tong catches up to him ..."
