California: Tancredo to introduce bill to cut off highway funds to California
KFMB Radio, AM760 San Diego | September 5, 2003 | John Jorsett (me)

Posted on 09/05/2003 10:31:19 AM PDT by John Jorsett

Congressman Tom Tancredo (R, Colorado) appeared on the Rick Roberts radio show this morning and said that as soon as Gray Davis signs SB60 (related story on FR here), he will introduce a bill in congress to cut highway funds to states that grant driver's licenses to people who are here illegally. It will take a long while to become enacted, if ever, but at least it's something.

While I welcome help from any quarter, I think it's disgraceful that we have to rely on a congressman from another state to do even this much. A caller to the show said that she contacted the office of congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R, California) and was told that Cunningham would oppose such a bill if it were introduced. I always thought Cunningham was more of a standup guy, but it looks like even he is caving in to this crap.

***he (Tom Tancredo) will introduce a bill in congress to cut highway funds to states that grant driver's licenses to people who are here illegally***

Passage of Tancredo's bill should be the #1 priority in Congress.

EXCELLENT! Good to know that there is one elected official that has balls!!! We need a referendum before JANURAY 1, 2004 to put a stay on this law! Colorado has already stipulated that it will not honor CA driver's licenses there if this bill is signed! So anyone stopped in Colorado while driving is subject to arrest! I don't know much about Duke Cunningham's politics, but he was surprisingly rude when he called in to talk with Tom McClintock last week on the Roger Hedgecock show. I think Roger may have talked with Duke in the past about immigration issues, and he wasn't helpful.

And, Cunningham supported the 245(i) extension in H.R. 1885 in 2002.

Our roads here in California are already the worst in the nation, but I applaud this effort.

I've heard that when SB 60 is signed, Colorado has legislation that will no longer accept CA drivers license as a valid proof of identification.

I think Tancredo has a GREAT idea, In fact, I would like to see the rest of the 49 states refuse to accept California drivers licenses as valid for driving in their respective states. Mexifornia can do what they wish but the rest of us don't have to agree. Why call anything illegal in Mexifornia?

As a Californian, I am really disturbed by this legislation. But all Americans should be concerned.

Once this bill is signed by the Gov., illegals from all over America will come to California to get their legal driver's license, then fan back out across America's highways to where they live and work.

Yeah, I have a feeling that once this bill is signed, my California Driver's License will no longer be accepted as valid ID anywhere in this country.

And I bet it won't be long before the other states rescind their reciprocity laws, meaning they will no longer honor a CA-DL holder's priveledge to drive in their states.

:::shaking head:::

Unfortunately, this may not have much effect. I've been living in California for 13 years and have seen no significant highway improvements even with federal highway funds.

I think a better approach would be to send federal marshals to arrest any state officer or employee who follows through on giving drivers licenses to illegals. This is aiding and abetting a foreign invasion and should be prosecuted as treason.
