Court Date Set for 182mph Driver

LEHIGHTON, PA-September 4, 2003 — Just how fast will a Lamborghini go?

Police in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, charge William Faenza Junior was doing 182 in his Lamborghini Diablo.

Officers also charge Faenza was driving drunk. Police say they caught up with him when he pulled into a gas station.

While Faenza concedes he may have been doing 100, he denies going nearly 200 miles per hour.

He says if he was going that fast, the police would have never caught him.

Besides, Faenza says the wheels on his Lamborghini start to shake when he goes faster than 70.

He's to appear in court next Wednesday.

I have a Jaguar XK8 that has a speedometer marked to 170 mph, but I have yet to get it past 120. someday I will take a road trip to the open road to see if that is accurate, or wishful thinking.

Since we're all telling the stories of speed in our youth, I have several. I had a Suzuki GSX-R 750 that was performance built (shaved heads, ported, exhaust, etc) that I got to 172. My Mustang SVO got to around 135, and my IROC-Z would hit about 140. Ironically, the fastest I ever went in my youth in a car, was in my mom's '86 300ZX Turbo, at 147!

As this story reads, I tend to agree with the guy that if he was indeed going 182, the cops would never have caught him.

As far as nothing being able to outrun a radio, my thought was that those radios were only as fast as the cars they were in. In our rural area, it was a pretty safe bet to run from the cops (maybe not actually the 'safe' bet!) because if you could outrun the first one, the second one with the radio down the road wouldn't know where to look. I ran from the cops probably a dozen times in my youth, and never got caught once. When the state trooper was sitting dead still radaring traffic and I blew past him at 100+, I figured the odds were in my favor, so I just dropped the hammer and kept on going. Happily it worked out for me, but I was lucky and I know it. No more hot pursuits for me!

Chevy Chevelle 1979 on I-45 154 - 55 zone. (that is what it said on the ticket)

Nissan Maxima 2002 on Beltway 8 - 145 - 70 zone.

Honda Valkyrie 2003 on Beltway 8 - 155 - 70 zone.

The Chevelle was the craziest. It had hot rod go-fast parts, but only stock brakes.

The Maxima had a some pedal left.

The Valkyrie had plenty of throttle left.

Yeah, Jags do fly. Several years ago I cruised across Kansas at 110 mph in a 82 XJ6. Jags just begin to get thier legs at 60 mph. They feel very stable at over 100 mph. At the time I was passed by a Audi 5000 with diplomat plates. He could care less about a ticket. I followed him for over an hour. Sure made the trip short.

Ok, anyone got any cool pulled over by the police speeding stories? I'll go first.

For a while i lived in the People's Republic of New York. One day, on the way home from work, I was blown away by a woman driving a 78 cutlass supreme, with a harley sticker on the rear window. I took this as an offense to my manhood, so I sped up to pass her. We came up to the toll booths for the NYS Throughway and came out even. My Saab Turbo easily outperformed her. However, I knew there were quite a few JBT's cruising the throughway, so i only went up to 15 mph over the posted speedlimit-55. She blows me away again, and gets in the far left lane (the NYS trhoughway is proabably 8 lanes around Albany) and starts running around 85, i'd guess. I speed up just to see what's going to happen, cuz i'm curious. sure enough, she comes up on a NYS Trooper, who is also in the far left lane...and she starts tailgating the trooper going about 75 in a 55 zone!!!!

Well, I was rolling on the floor laughing at this. The cop keeps going for about a mile. Finally, he gets tired of being tailgated and pulls into the second left lane so she can pass, which she does. He then pulls in behind her and lights her up.

Only in NY are people this stupid. My guess is she was Cuomo's daughter or something like that. I've always wanted to find out who this chic was to be sooooo stupid!

Anyone beat this story?

Cop Car's ??? Heck Cop copters don't go that fast ! BTW I'm of the opinion this infraction was merely a source of revenue issue not a crime. If Uncle Sugar really wanted to keep us safe not a vehicle made or imported would be allowed to go faster that the national speed limit right ?

They made us all safer by making sure we can only kill 10 people at a time before we have to reload why can't they do it with vehicle speed. < / sarcasm >

In Italy and Germany I crusied the autostraza and autobhans at 120 and 140 all the time and still had locals on my rear bumper flashing their lights to "pass" me cause I was too slow !

I'd suggest in reality that there are not very many "quality" roadways in America where such can be done safely. But it had to be fun !!

First ex-wife and I were on the way to Vegas FRom San Diego. Hit the NV line and it was Hammer Down! In those days, there was no speed limit in Nevada.

Somewhere above 140 mph in my mildly reworked 1965 GTO (Iskendarian cam, anti-pump up lifters, pushrods, valve springs, retainers, headers, some carb & ignition mods and mild suspension upgrades + the best Michelin tires I could buy), we got passed (actually, he blew our doors off!) by a red Ferrari. Damn thing was on me and past me so fast I never got a good look!

I decided to back off to 100 and just cruise on in to Vegas.

My current 1965 GTO is not capable of running that fast, yet. But it will be, Real Soon Now. And due to the H-O Racing Strong Arm suspension, it will handle much better, should I decide to go that fast again.

I'm wondering, was there axel ratio option when you bought the V-8 Jag ?
I owned a 1966 E-type Roadster that had plenty left at 130. A 66 coup I owned later seemed winded at 120 but was much quicker off the line (and could humiliate a Corvette driver).

Actually, it is easy to do.

My 89 Mustang Convertible is speed limited at 147 MPH.

It is not exactly stock but in Calif, losing the smog stuff is not an option.

I once owned a 69 Plymouth GTX (a Road Runner clone) with a 440, 3 - 2 Barrel carbs and a 727 trans that topped out at 163. I once made the Atlanta to Augusta run in under an hour...

They say speed kills, can I do it till I need a bandaid?
