Wrong. The Dems did what they felt they had to do to keep a judge they opposed off the bench - and it worked!
The blame goes squarely to the Senate Republicans and the Bush Administration who never made the case for Estrada a high enough priority to achieve victory.
The sad part is the Republicans will never stoop to such tactics themselves. Democrats have kicked them in the nuts again and their response will be "oh, well". Face it, our senators are spineless. Why does Rove want more RINOs in the Senate instead of a few who are willing to actually stand for something?

I want to shout -- LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE! Going into 2004, the fact that the DemocRATs defied the will of the majority in the Senate on judicial nominations can be used against those same DemocRATs. And let's face it, the hispanic community paid attention to judicial confirmation hearings probably more than normal, and had to conclude their guy was treated unfairly.
Bush should appoint Estrada to some high-level very visible position, as a reminder to the public how petty and partisan the Democrats are.

No wonder you're out of a job.
The shop owner(GOP) is in charge of what's served to their customers.(those who voted them into office)
They are between the suppliers (Dems)and the customers. (constituents)
They are failing their customers.

This is good news in a way. Now the Latinos may wake up and see what the Rats really think of them. There should be commercials about his horrific treatment.
It will be perfect after the election when there will be too many Republicans in the Senate to filibuster when Estrada gets a Supreme Court appointment.

This is a disgrace...the very least the Senate should have done was force the dumocrats to actually filibuster...put it on the news. And Bush is a coward for not blasting the senate with both barrels from day 1 about their obstructionism. He would have won the vote...but he was denied that chance by a minority.

Proud to be a Republican sick of the fence straddlers. I a proud of President Bush. Estrada hung on longer than most of you would have. The Dems were never going to approve him, ever!

I guess you are admirer of the people who play "dirty pool".

LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE! Going into 2004Now suppose after 2004 we have GWB, a larger majority in the House, and 60 in the Senate, what will be the excuse then for not cutting 20% of the FedGov monster, and actually trying to follow the intent of the Constitution(not what it has lived and breathed and mutated into) and not pandering to every leftist interest?

Sure the Demos held it up...and the Repubs let them. It is a total unwillingness to play hardball by the GOP when the game is on THEIR field.

The way the Senate is built up, if you have 41 Senators you can trust/buy off/blackmail, you own the f***ing legislative body. Too many others won't try to shake things up, because they know they may need the capability posed by the filibuster.
I'm not thrilled, but we're going to have to look at ways to get stuff done. And make sure the nominees know what is possible. Miguel hung on, not knowing how dirty the pool would get.
Now, we know, and we'd better make damn sure they pay a price for this.

I a proud of President Bush. Estrada hung on longer than most of you would have. The Dems were never going to approve him, ever! Using that logic he should nominate Ann Coulter and Mark Levin and let them loose in the media. If nominations are never going to be confirmed, it might as well be them.

Nah; college needs to drop the DH. When pitchers come out of high school, they know how to hit.

So you are applauding the demos for throwing out 200 years of Senate precedent on Judicial nominations. I guess you are admirer of the people who play "dirty pool". No more than you are applauding the demos for doing whatever it took to defeat a nomination.
You sound like the type that would applaud Al Queda for hijacking planes and flying them into tall buildings. I would be the type trying to figure out a way to smash them so it doesn't happen again. There was a way to smash the Democrats this time but the spineless Republicans were not willing to go there.
You can only throw out precedent once. Democrats have successfully implemented a new precedent and will doubtlessly use it now as often as they wish. The Republicans (the majority) LET THEM get away with establishing this new precedent. THAT's who deserves the blame. You can't expect evil to stop being evil just because there are precedents. You find ways to prevent evil by making it too costly for them to carry out their evil. The Republicans hardly raised a peep. They allowed evil to win the day because they weren't willing to resist it.
Why are you defending evil?

The next Democrat that gets in ought to see the same thing happen to his judges, though.
But that's the point....Specter and Hatch will see to it that that doesn't happen.
The Federal Judiciary is far too important for the GOP to give up so easily.

But back to the point, you were the one who was applauding the demos for throwing out 200 years of Senate precedent.

Breaking news -(D.C.) Frist changes locks on Senate gym, doesn't give Dem's new keys.
Tht will be about as hard a slap they will give them considering how hard they have fought so far.

That nasty CA. Demo operative Bob Mulholland was on Fox last night, ranting about how Republicans "never miss a chance to attack Hispanics", and I kept yelling at the TV, wishing Hannity would throw the Estrada outrage back in Mulholland's face.

Yep.
Of course, the problem is, WTF do we do to keep it from happening again?
The appropriations bills are almost done... Miguel held on, and didn't do too bad for someone who had no idea the traditions and rules would be ditched to stop him.
