But they just couldn't get the f***ing votes.

Then where's the damn "nuclear" option that we kept hearing about? Drag Cheney's butt into the chair and force the issue. They want to play dirty, then play dirty. Just get it done. They're so damn concerned with being concilatory and "working together."

The Dems have proven that they don't want that. This is the most devisive batch of Democrats in more than a generation. And instead of finding a way to get the job done, Frist wants to play games.

If the Dems want to filibuster, then damn it, force the filibuster. Make 'em read the DC phone book. Make 'em read the Post Classifieds for all I care! But ACT LIKE YOU'RE IN CHARGE FOR ONCE!

You think this crap is gonna stop? Owen is next, then the judge from California! And just wait! The SCOTUS is ready to disgorge one from the bench. And do you honestly think that the Dems will sit still for that? Hell, naw! They're gonna scream bloody murder, and they'll get what they want because we're being "honorable."

I tell you what...I'm tired of being bent over simply because Frist doesn't have the cajones to get the job done.

Normally I would agree with you, but not at this time.
The President is only one man, and he has many, many
critically important things on his plate right now.
The advise and consent function lies with the Senate,
and it is the US Senate that has shamefully failed Mr. Estrada.

How many damn cloture votes did Frist hold on the guy?

How many times did Frist force the issue? How many times did he force them to do a real filibuster? How many times did he drag Cheney down to get it done?

No.......

But on the other hand, how many times did he tell us to be patient? How many times did he tell us that this "plan" would work? How many times did he urge "caution?"

You talk about a half-assed plan, Frist has already used his half-assed plan.

GET THE JOB DONE.

we feel abandoned by the Republicans.

Sadly, VERY sadly, I agree with you. I have waited my ENTIRE life for the GOP to control Congress and have a sitting POTUS. Although I admire GW for his actions following 911 and fully support our War on Terrorism, his fiscal priorities are just so much liberal BS.

The media is going to have to cover candidate's speeches, whether they like them or not.......and those candidates, including the President, are going to be speaking directly to the American people, and their speeches covered by local media.

There is a way, during an election year, to bypass the media bias, and get the truth out.

IMO, that's what HAS to be done by the President, and any Republican Senatorial or Congressional candidate, and that's what will turn this 'victory' around and backfire against the RATS.

If that's not done, I will be very surprised........and mad.

btw, good analogy of the Bengals and the spineless Republicans..........especially to a lifelong Browns' fan..... :o)

Mike~~~I agree with every word you just wrote.....to allow this man to be hung out to dry and then not to even lift a finger to help him is damning for our party.

Schumer and Kennedy were just on Fox with their reaction to Estrada withdrawing ......they were spewing the usual lies.........and what hurts is there will be NO Republican reaction.

This has me wondering why I remain a Republican..

I've been wondering alot lately about this need for 60 votes in the Senate to pass something. Or is it 60 votes needed to confirm a judicial nominee?

I seem to recall that this magical number of 60 was put into place recently.

Does anyone know more about this? My gut says that something is wrong with this.

Thanks in advance for any knowledge Freepers may have to share with me.

Re Estrada - not a day passes anymore when I hope and pray that in 2004 the Republicans have a solid majority in the House and Senate and that Dubya is re-elected. What the Demoncrats did to this man is dispicable.

But Miguel Estrada is the guy who QUIT on Bush and Frist.

Do you blame him!? He's the guy who was used like a cheap prom date and discarded with yesterday's rubbish, only to be dragged up when there was nothing else on the agenda.

Hell, the man's got a life to live! What's he supposed to do, put his life and his family's life on hold while Frist plays pattycake? Please. Spare me.

Well, Miguel Estrada bent over, too. HE QUIT on Bush and Frist. Quite frankly, I have lost some of the respect I had for him over his call.

He's gotta get some of the blame for this, too. He LET Neas, Leahy, and Schumer roll him over. Had he stuck it out, had he taken HIS case to the American people, we might have put more heat on `em and switched a couple of votes.

There's plenty of blame to go around.

Shumer and Kennedy recently pontificated on the fact that what Dubya did re Estrada was unconstitutional and now that Estrada has withdrawn, yippee yi yay, the Constitution still works.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but where in the Constitution does it say that the President's nominees have to be confirmed by the Senate?

This has been so obvious for decades it's hardly worth mentioning. The Communists and their sympathizers who like to call themselves "progressives" nowadays, know they can't win elections outside of Berkeley, Cambridge and Santa Monica, so they've focused on the unelected branch of the gubmint. And they have won it, and we have let them. Who in this country pays attention to the appointments in the judicial branch, who ever considers the judges' backgrounds, political views? Lawyers, judges, like to present themselves as apolitical, and that is unfortunately the prevailing view of them. Critical law theory, anyone?

I do blame him somewhat. He had to have known - at least by this time - that the rules had changed. They ran how many cloture votes for his nomination? Do you even know?

Miguel up and quit - he has to take some of the blame as a result.

Sure they will. They saved millions of women from back alley abortions. They are heroes of the highest order

I've seen stats showing the deaths attributed to "back alley" abortions and to the point that Roe v Wade was passed, the numbers were in the low 1000's. Interestingly, the highest number of deaths in one year was the year Roe v Wade was passed and it was passed in January of that year.

Wish I knew where that chart was now.

Just be patient and wait until 2005, everybody! Please! We'll have a majority in the Senate, in Congress and our man in the White House then! We'll show 'em!

This makes you wonder what is the real agenda of the Republicans. If there is not a serious reaction form the GOP I will change my party affiliation and voting habits.

Putting rhetoric aside and looking only at results I see only a growth in Government and spending and a continual advancement of the liberal agenda. You gotta ask yourself why the Dems are able to accomplish as the minority what the Reps could not do when in a similar position. Voting for a 3rd party would not give any different results and would go a ling way toward my self respect.

Had he stuck it out, had he taken HIS case to the American people, we might have put more heat on `em and switched a couple of votes.

Remember that when Owen backs out. And the next one. And the next one.

You keep wanting to blame the man for getting punked. But no blame for the ones that set this up in the first damn place with a half-assed plan that was piss-poor in planning and execution.

Frist doesn't even have the wherewithal to admit that he screwed up and to move on to "plan B" -- of course that's assuming that he even had that much plannnig sense to begin with.

Well, now the birds have come home to roost. The GOP has screwed themselves, and, like you, are going to look to try to blame Estrada for not taking it up the butt long enough.

Take off the blinders. You are the one that's always concerned with conciliatory gestures to the Hispanic community. This won't win the Administration any brownie points. Nope. Not one damn bit.

Not only that, I'll lay you even odds that Kennedy, Schumer, Leahy, Hillary!™ and Daschle (not to mention the Democratic Candi-smurfs) will be on the evening news touting their victory over the "extremist" nominee that the Bush Administration tried to "force on the American people."

And you want to blame Estrada for THAT? Nope. The GOP can't back out of this one. Only place to look for blame is the closest mirror.

I'm only 23 years old and I already dropped out of the political process. This kind of stuff makes me so mad and disallusioned.
