Proper 9-11-03 Tribute

How can Americans best remember the events of 9-11-01 on it's anniversary? What did Americans do right after those catastrophic events in communities across the U.S.? Strangers gathered in public places, including many highway overpasses and bridges waving flags and banners of unity and pride. No government agency sanctioned those events and no one was told to be patriotic. What better wayt to pay tribute to those who died than to capture that same spirit of 9/11, what some have called grassroots patriotism.

In that tradition the LAFAYETTE FLAG BRIGADE of Lafayette, CA. will be remembering 9/11 with an OVERPASS RALLY at the El Curtola Bridge on Thursday 9-11-03.

Schedule of Events:

MORNING OBSERVANCES at these overpasses from 5:30-8:00 a.m.-------

1. San Ramon: Hwy 680/Alcosta Blvd exit overpass. 2. Pleasant Hill: Hwy 680/Oak Park exit overpass. 3. Lafayette: Hwy 24/El Curtola Bridge(Pleasant Hill Rd. exit) 4. Orinda: Hwy 24/St. Stephens exit overpass. 5. Martinez: Hwy 680/Glazier Dr. (Morello exit) Bring flag and flashlight.

AFTERNOON TRIBUTE from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m., El Curtola Bridge Lafayette (Pleasant Hill Rd. exit to Old Tunnel Rd. to top of overpass) Patriotic music; largest flag display in Northern California; Blue Star Moms and Operation Postcard; Candlelight Vigil at dusk. No political signage and please park off the bridge; see website www.nevereverforget911.com for directions and details.

Flying now is safer than it has ever been. Not because of any new security at airports, though. Sure, they have to do that stuff because they'd be raked over the coals if they didn't. But the big reason that flying is safer is because 9-11 changed everything for the passengers on airplanes.

The next doofus (or group of them, doofi?) that tries to hijack an airplane won't have a planeload of sheep that think they are only being taken to Cuba. Those guys will be beaten to a bloody mass by the time the plane lands. The change in attitude of the passengers is the important thing, and it's far more important that any else that government could be expected to do.

Well said and right on the mark. 9-11 has changed the way we think about everything. It has affected us socially, politically and economically, and nothing will change that for a long, long time.
