The kid's a little smart a** and his actions were vicious and deliberate. Sorry Charlie...I don't feel sorry for you one bit and I do hope you got to jail which due to your immature outlook, we will call "timeout".

I'm aware of many large businesses that were affected by recent virus attacks, and there has been losses that can be easily tied to dollars. This is like any other case of vandalism, and a price needs to be paid to whatever extent provided by law (criminally/civil) that this little jerk produced and/or perpetuated the virus.
There's a real cost to these crimes.

This is the first time I have ever had a run-in with the law.Irrelevant. It's always the "first time" when you get caught for the first time.
He expressed concern the government was going to make an example of him.
Good, me too. I received 300 of these emails within one hour at work. We were down for 6 hours while our IT staff got the software patch on our servers. Making an example out of this snot is a good idea.
"I understand that the government needs to catch someone for these crimes. I'm not the one they need to get," he said.
Yes, you are.
"My son is not brilliant; he's not genius," Rita Parson said. "Anyone that has any computer knowledge could have done what Jeff did."
But they didnt, your son did. You need to own up to the fact that your hellion created one helluva mess for alot of people. Plus, you sound stupid as hell if you use that defense.

In the words of the great Warren Zevon...
Well, he went down to dinner in his Sunday best
Excitable boy, they all said
And he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy
He took in the four a.m. show at the Clark
Excitable boy, they all said
And he bit the usherette's leg in the dark
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy
He took little Susie to the Junior Prom
Excitable boy, they all said
and he raped her and killed her, then he took her home
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy
After ten long years they let him out of the Home
Excitable boy, they all said
And he dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

I don't really care if he goes to jail. I just want to know his (and his parents') address so I can send them my bill for business interruption.

I think the kid should be forced into eating 3 TV dinners a day for 5 years ONLY!
He should be in jail for two years and the parents if they seem openly backing this kid's actions should be presented a bill and liens on their assets for life.

"I have a very supportive, close group of friends. I'm not reckless, I don't do drugs, smoke or drink. This is the first time I have ever had a run-in with the law. It's hurtful to see the accounts of me. I'm not depressed, embarrassed about my weight, or a misfit," Jeffrey Parson (search) said in a transcript posted on a news Web site.
I just like to break things. Is that so wrong? Hang this sucker. Just another punk vandal.
To: Guillermo
I hope they charge and prosecute this tub of lard to the fullest extent of the law Dennis Miller had a great line about this rotund youngster while subbing for Hannity last Friday: "Well, looking at this kid, we know he's not inventing tapeworms".
To: citizen
I can tell you that the amount of money wasted fighting this virus where I work probably is in the hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. Computer techs had to go around to every machine infected and manually clean them. All day and night long when it struck - that means high-paid overtime. Then there's the lost work for each person whose computer was infected and those of us standing around talking about it. There were a dozen or so infected computers in my immediate area, that translates into thousands upon thousands company-wide (I work for a BIG company).

Was that a Freudian slip about the virus petri dish that Microsoft pushes out? ;)
Needless, the post about "you have a car too, don't run anyone over" hits it right on the head. Just because something can be exploited doesn't give you the right to do it. And don't expect any sympathy either.

I'm not reckless, I don't do drugs, smoke or drink.
Therefore, I can do anything I want.
To: Puppage
By making that statement, the parents made a point without realizing it.
They haven't a clue about responsible parenting. Blaming the otheres, in this case, the simple facts of computer knowledge, rather than asking their son to take responsibility for a crime, is the hallmark of bad parenting.

This was a malicious act of sabotage, inteneded to disrupt lives, not some prank."to the fullest extent of the law"
I wasn't harmed by the Blaster but I did get whacked by Sobig.F
I really worry about moving to electronic [and soon internet] voting, I have no confidence that it will be safe.
