My letter:
September 03, 2003
To the Editor:
Thank you, President Bush, for your strength and leadership during these trying times. You have instilled in our country a renewed sense of pride and patriotism. Many Americans now realize that it's not the professional athletes or Hollywood stars who deserve our admiration, but our brave military, police and fire personnel.
We have had zero terrorist attacks since 9/11/01, thanks in large part to your efforts to protect us. You were dead-on when you told the world's nations they are either with us or against us in the war on terror. We've learned a lot about those we considered friends. We've also been able to determine who is with us here at home. Those who aren't tend to recoil from flag-waving and love of country, like a vampire splashed with holy water. Those same Americans attack you with such malice that they ought to be ashamed of themselves.
They've tried to label you as an evil despot. It must be upsetting to them to hear about Iraqis naming babies after you. While offering no substantive alternatives to your plans and actions, your Democratic opponents have proven they do not have America's best interests at heart. They are concerned solely with discrediting you in order to regain political power. Their irresponsible behavior has not only been a divisive force at a time when a united front is sorely needed; it has also emboldened our enemies abroad.
It's time for Americans to recognize that you have done an excellent job. How many others are up to the task? Many of us out there appreciate you and pray for you every day. Thank you for being a man of such strong convictions, and for not faltering under the great burden of leading our nation. You've inspired many of us to become more involved and better citizens.

President leads with strength and conviction
While I don't agree with everything the Bush admin is doing, it's clear there's an organized effort to fill the editorial pages of our area's newspapers with anti-Bush vitriol. That, coupled with the predictable Bush-bashing by the editorial board's offerings and the selection of every left-wing nutcase columnist for "commentary" makes it look like the whole country wants to get rid of him, which, I'm sure, is not the case.
Perception can be reality; if this constant anti-Bush drumbeat isn't responded to, it'll have impact on the casual voters' minds.
