Seeking information from former or active MECha members regarding California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante and his past ties to MECha in the 1970s in the area of Fresno State University.

Looking specifically for audio tape, photographs, notes from meetings, names of former associates within the organization, Bustamante's duties, activities etc within the organization.

Information will be used to cross reference existing information to determine inaccuracies or to help substantiate existing information.

Admin Moderator: This seems to be getting out of hand. I don't request that the thread be shut down, because I think it contains useful information and has a legitimate purpose related to the mission of the forum. However, I believe PRND21's threat to have me banned is out of line and warrants your attention.

I can handle some trolling, heated arguments and even the sort of disruption PRND21 has engaged in on this thread, but threats of any kind are against FR policy and have no place here. Threatening to get me banned over some baseless accusation is a serious threat.

I would agree that there are no saints on this thread, only sinners, and I am no means blameless, but no one should be threatening anyone here.

I haven't been "digging dirt" on Bustamante. My interest lies with the Aztlan movement as a whole, of which MEChA is a part, but by no means exclusively so. The Bustamante connection is interesting, but probably not as big a deal is it's being made out to be. We'll see.

I'll be traveling to California for a week to visit family there, and may have some opportunities to do some first-hand studies, but my interest in the reconquista movement dates back years, and researching it is not just a matter of highlighting the cause du jour.

But I will be sure to post my findings as I compose them. I have other things underway as well, so an estimate on timeframe would be imprudent.

I went to Fresno State in the 70's. There was a fairly decent school newspaper there called, "The Daily Collegian."
I am sure that most of the MECHA activities at that time would have been covered by this newspaper.

Have you tried this source in your effort to find the names of people who may have been either active in MECHA or known about MECHA activities?

No, I didn't know Cruz. No, I did not belong to MECHA, (wouldn't even have considered it, even though I am an hispanic female.) My parents were conservatives and probably would have disowned me and even still, I was too busy studying and getting grades good enough to get into grad school.
