While I was doing a web search for "National Coming Out Week, 2003", (Oct 6-11), I came across this link near the top of the list:
I give this information to anyone who is interested.
It's All Relative
Wednesday 8:30/7:30c
Starring: Lenny Clarke, Reid Scott, Maggie Lawson, John Benjamin Hickey, Harriet Harris, Chris Sieber
So you think Romeo and Juliet had family issues? Listen to this.
Bobby's a bartender the only son of gregarious, salt-of-the-earth Irish Catholic parents from Boston. His fiancé, Liz, is a toney Harvard medical student and she's Protestant (no, that's not the problem). Liz has two dads, not one, and they're a worldly pair of well-heeled gay men.
The moment Bobby popped the question to Liz, they knew their families would have to meet. And the first time they brought his Mom and Dad together with her Dad and Dad... well, things did not go well.
Aside from the obvious, there's a culture gap between these in-laws-to-be that makes the Grand Canyon look like a seam in the sidewalk. Liz's parents are devotees of the arts. Bobby's are devotees of the Red Sox. Liz's parents are into St. Laurent. Bobby's parents swear by St. Patrick. Did we mention that Bobby's sister, Maddy, loves throwing gasoline on the fire?
From Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, acclaimed producers of the Oscar-winning Chicago.
As Bobby's parents stew about the upcoming nuptials, madcap Mike and goofy Gary slip away for some randy fun at the highway rest-stop. Gary scores some ecstasy, but when the clean-shaven, well-hung Mike manages to coax a cub-scout into their SUV for some love, all heck breaks lose as they realize the winsome tot is Bobby's very own nephew.
Mon, 8 pm, CST
Brought to you by the Queer Alliance and funded by USAC.
Focus on the Families, UCLAs National Coming Out Week 2003 Celebration, happens this year October 6-11. Considering the recent sodomy law strike-down and the passing of gay marriage in Canada, it seemed a great time to highlight our queer family ties.
Events such as the Womens Expression Night and Bi-Icecream Social were designed to highlight the great contributions of individual groups to the state of Queerdom at UCLA. Other events, such as the Sex Workshop, were designed to educate. Others, such as the Lambda Alumni Family Picnic, were created to fortify the ties between Queers past and present. Our Family Festival and Dance end the week with fantastic abandon, celebrating our unity.
