Sorry for the vanity, but lately I've been getting put on ping lists that I never asked to be on. I was wondering if this has happened to any other FReepers. Anybody else having this problem?

I've had more than a dozen pings by the same person in less than an hour.I politely asked to be removed!
I feel your pain but it wasn't me doing the pinging..

I have a prayer ping list. Anyone who wants on it or off it is welcome to let me know, either with a FReepmail or on a forum discussion thread.
Blessings,
trussell
p.s. I didn't add you to the list.

No, this has 1000+ keyword potential! lol ;) Not if the mod keeps deleting them. IMHO sometimes the keywords are the best part of a thread. The CA Guv threads are a great example of that.

There are probably as many reasons that people might put one on a ping list as there are people with ping lists.
Certainly a common one is posters making comments in a thread. Later, someone posting to or starting a thread they feel relates may well put you on a temporary or otherwise kind of ping list because they feel that based on your earlier post, you are interested in such.
Certainly people are inherently obligated to take you off if you so request.
I suppose it is an issue of whether one values more the likelihood of not missing something interesting or values more having a minimal number of msgs to your ID.
For us info addicts, I suspect the more ping lists the merrier.
I have very few ping lists--and only one I manage to do much with very often at all--an aggressive pray-er prayer list. And some have asked to be dropped from that--which I did immediately upon reading their request.
I have never managed to really get together a threatened end of the world ping list. And I don't seem to do much with the UFO list. Other priorities etc.
I prefer to view ping lists as a courtesy that people would prefer I not miss out on something they think from the evidence in my posted comments that I might be interested in. In rare cases, I may ask to be removed though I don't think I've done so yet.
Usually, I'll just delete something I'm not interested in. It doesn't really tire my muscles to hit the delete button an extra time or two in a day's FREEPING.
Of course, if one is super, super taxed and super, super irritaed by 'extra' msgs, I suppose it could be a 'problem.' But hardly a problem on the order of Shrillery de Fosterizer de Machiavelli running for President.
To me, fussing vs deleting is . . . a bit cheeky in MOST situations. And I have probably 200 emails a day to deal with PLUS FR.
I suppose we could have a thread or some such that listed people who wanted to be left off of ALL ping lists. But that's an extra bother for all concerned. And given errors common to humans, it's likely to not be fool-proof anyway.
I have collected 3-4 names of folk who sounded like they never wanted to be on ANY of my past, present or future ping lists. Maybe that's an alternative. I try hard to insure I don't make a mistake with those names but know I'm human, too.
Sometimes in a particularly energetic thread, where lots of posts have been full of energy and probably emotion--if I feel I've written or someone else has written something worthy reading by most who have posted in that thread, I may list most or all in a reply addressee list.
But that's not a ping list--to me--that's just saying--hey--group--on this ragingly intense thread--here's an important message I think merits all our consideration given all that's been said by us-all. It's a one time thing and I don't keep a record of the addressee list.
Guess I'm torn.
Mostly, I prefer to be alerted to most anything dear FReepers feel I might be interested in--even if they are mind-numbingly ignorant of my real personality and real interests. At least I appreciate their thoughtfulness. I don't see any need for me to be irritated. If it happens every time I turn around by a particular pinger--to a point of being REAL bothersome vs merely requiring an occasional extra delete-key push--then I can ask that particular person to take me off their list.
Life is too short to be annoyed by too many petty things, IMHO.

Sorry . . .
REAL disturbed?
or series-ly disturbed to the point of a REAL HUGH problem?
Does that mean your cheese has mold, has a Shrillery bite out of it with poisons left to infect the unsuspecting or . . . that a moose has joined you in the shower?

Being kinda new here....I don't know what a 'ping' list is...how you get on or off it. All I want is ALL the information that comes through here, especially political topics. Is there somewhere I can go to get an explanation for 'ping'...'bump'....'zot' etc. I hate to bother anyone but it would make this FR site so much more enjoyable if I understood it all. Thanks....

Ping ping list?
Sounds like the beginning of a song . . .
or is it a rainstorm slowly beginning?
Or maybe the ZOT KITTENS plinking on the right end of the keyboard?
I give up. Don't ping me if you discover THE answer.

I think your dictionary may be full of hyperbole.
An abomination, really,
is Shrillery in the White House

And the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION is much worse beyond that.

"Ping" is an alert from one FReeper to the other. Like, say I got to know you and I saw an article that you would like but may have missed. I would ping--or alert you-- to the thread.
"ZOT" is when an idiot liberal who tries to convince us of his ways (aka, troll) has been banned from FR. A group of FReepers, the Viking Kitties (which I am one of), assist the mod in doing this.
I'm not sure about "Bump". I think it is a way of approving an article.
"BTTT" stands for "Bump To The Top".
"All your base are belong to us", "Someone set us up the bomb", etc. are all part of a video game skit that never came out. FReepers use this all the time, not sure what it's meaning is...
"Moose, Cheese, Sister, a moose bit my sister, etc." I have no clue.
There's my knowledge!

I don't consider BELOVED FREEPERS thoughtfully including me on something they even THINK I might possibly be interested in
to be anything close to spam.
But excuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzze me if we have dared to cause your lofty preciousness a few microseconds of extra bother. We certainly wouldn't want to jangle anyone's haughtiness--real or potential or imagined.

FREEPICATE REQUIRES
someone to remove you from a ping list if you request it.
No argument. No if's and's or Shrillery's thighs.
