I drove by this place yesterday and have resolved to accompish this feat on April 12th, 2004 (My birthday). I need some strategy help. Which course do you eat first? How to prepare yourself in the weeks and days leading up to the event, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Order it as rare as you can handle. Takes less effort to chew and swallow. Don't starve yourself beforehand, you don't want your stomach to shrink.

Starve yourself for a few days beforehand?

I'd suggest immediate preventive therapy or purchase of a long feather.

Don't starve yourself beforehand, you don't want your stomach to shrink.

But make it small, otherwise it'll fill you up and you won't handle the steak (remember, you also have to eat the trimmings).

Maybe you should practice by eating a 36oz steak first, a build up your confidence measure, before going for the whole back end of a cow.

I'd spend at least two weeks of heavy eating first, in order to stretch the gut, and to keep it ready to receive. The day you're going to do this, don't eat for about 5 hours before - that way, you're clear.

How about combining your feat with a fundraiser for Free Republic. Somebody did this last year with oysters. You could take pledges.

Just a thought. Good luck either way.

I am definetly going to work my way up over time. What I don't know are things like how much food to eat in the days leading up to the event. Also, should one drink water with it? I have noticed in the hot dog eating contests that the guys dip the buns in water.
