BUSH DROPS DOG
Scotland on Sunday / Frontpage Drudge ^ | 08-31-03

Posted on 08/31/2003 4:34:07 PM PDT by Brian S

GEORGE Bush stunned his wife Laura and the members of the Waco Midway Little League Softball World Series championship team when he dropped his dog, Barney.

However, the American President quickly scooped up the uninjured animal after its fall on to the tarmac at the TSTC Airfield in Waco yesterday.

Bush’s political career seems to be on a downward slide of its own, with an ailing economy and unrest in the Middle East threatening the President’s re-election prospects.

He still remains a relatively popular leader, according to office-holders and activists in both parties who took stock of the 2004 race at the traditional Labor Day break.

But with Democrat Howard Dean being catapulted to the head of the Democratic presidential field, he may have a fight on his hands.

Experts said they expect the Democratic primary fight to turn nasty as eight rivals try to halt Dean’s rise. Some worry that none of the contenders can stop Dean’s anti-establishment candidacy, prompting speculation that high-profile alternatives may join the race.

Waring Howe Jr, a prominent South Carolina Democrat, said: "He appeals to your heart and the part of you that is angry with the Bush administration."

At least Barney's still alive. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for former first dog Buddy. You wanna bet this gets more media attention than Buddy's untimely death?

A sleazy little bait & switch, ain't it? Still, the DU crowd will love it. They have an image of W bumping his head on the door frame of Marine One that they're very fond of. Excuse him for being human, why don't they? Not to mention having a lot on his mind.

And the point of posting this here is what? I have seen it on other Marxist forums where it is simply another launching point for some extremely anti-Bush remarks. I think we are better than that.

This is almost as odd as the choking incident in the WH.

But, you all are right it is a hit piece. I am surprised it didn't say something like "The president, who has struggled in his fight with alcoholism over the years..."

What a bunch of crap. Barney "fell" from a distance of about three feet and wasn't the slightest bit injured. Why is this a story? Oh yes, so the press has an opportunity to say stupid things about Bush's popularity and his presidency in general, and to promote Howard Dean. Pathetic.

Oh because its fun and the absurdity of it all and that I can.

Only "points" that I can think of right now.

BTW, its raining outside here...does that count?

It was an accident, but I wouldn't depend on 3 feet being a safe distance for a critter to land on concrete.

It was an accident that I am sure bothered the President for a while who loves the animal I am sure.

I had a Scottie about Barney's size who could have handled such a "fall" just fine. The bottom line is that GWB didn't do it on purpose, he probably wasn't even being the least bit careless (if you know a Scottie, you know how ornery and wiggly they can be), but the media (I was going to say "his enemies," same thing) are making a mountain out of not even a molehill - more like one grain of dust.

I didn't know Bush's career was on a downslide.. Hell, he beat Ma' Richards and Duffiss Gore, and won the Senate, and could at anytime appoint SCOTUS justices.... and ofcourse we are winning the wars and the stock market is on an up tick... I thought Scotts were smarter than this rag..

To Drudge it is a news story because everyone including the right is starting to hate him, so he is burning all the bridges.

I debated seriously, whether or not to place this in the "Breaking News" category...

However, this article will probably get more "hits" than any threads I initiate tonight...
