[history]
If Paul Hill dies by lethal injection Wednesday in Florida as scheduled, many will debate what led to the first abortion violence-related execution in the United States.
They'll take measure of Hill's passionate, intractable beliefs. His days of showing up outside abortion clinics. His appearances on national television to defend the shooting of abortion doctors as "justifiable homicide." His saying that God told him to kill a doctor outside that Pensacola abortion clinic in 1994.

Paul Hill is our modern John Brown. Reading the description of he and Brown's personality, they seem remarkably similar people. The difference here is that few people have memorialized the acts of Hill, which is a good thing.
Our abhorrence of abortion is equalled by our abhorrence of Mr. Hill's cold blooded murder of another human being. His arrogance and refusal to allow God to take care of vengeance. He's saved few lives through this act, much more through sidewalk counselling than through murder. He is no hero, he is a fool, and a radical.
I will take my pro-life views and experiences against anyone elses. I've spent hours on the picket line, I've voted pro-life, worked for pro-life candidates, but I roundly and totally condemn the actions of this man.

wow. a well-written article in the Clarion-Ledger. You don't see these too often.
After the wave of national publicity, Schneider warned Hill he would be excommunicated from the church
Has anyone ever heard of someone being "excommunicated" from a Presbyterian Church? I sure haven't.

Many on this forum consider John Brown a hero.

Keyes2000mt is correct. Paul Hill is the John Brown of the abortion absolutionist movement, except Paul Hill's crimes are not as horrendous as John Brown's were. John Brown's cause was right just like Paul Hill's cause is right and Paul Hill will become a martyr to his cause just like John Brown became a martyr to his cause. Just because their causes were right doesn't justify what either has done.

I meant abortion abolitionist movement
To: Coeur de Lion
I should have clarified.
John Brown was no hero of mine. He was a murdering fanatic maniac who arguably suffered from schizophrenia...hence the voices he claimed to have heard.
My point was the social liberals here revere John Brown.
I'm no social liberal.
As for abortion. If the country were at war over the issue, I know which side I'd be on.

Has anyone ever heard of someone being "excommunicated" from a Presbyterian Church? I sure haven't.Excommunication from the mainline, apostate, Presbyterian Church USA denomination? Almost never.
Church discipline, or disfellowship (which is what excommunication is) from the smaller, biblically faithful Presbyterian denominations, like the Presbyterian Church in America, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, or the Orthodox Presbyterian Church? Happens not infrequently...when a member (or more typically a leader) refuses to repent from some sinful activity. Real churches still exercise the discipline commanded by Jesus Himself, in Matthew 18:15-17:
If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that "BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED." If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
It is quite true that few even evangelical, bible-believing churches have the guts to follow this command adequately. Out of fear for being called "intolerant," or worse still, lawsuits--many pastors forego obeying Jesus in this.
Some churches now even, in their membership, require a signed statement that formally acquiesces to such discipline, if needed--just to try to avoid the courts allowing suits coming in and wiping out the assets of a congregation.
Welcome to 21st Century American liberty...

Paul Hill set himself up above the God ordained authorities--who alone "carry the sword."
May God have mercy upon his soul tonight.

I agree with your accessment of John Brown....no hero, but a terrorist in my book.
Same as Paul Hill.
It's sad so many think the ends justify the means.
Other than lawful warfare, execution, or (real) self-defense, killing is murder, period.
"Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,'[Deuteronomy 32:35] says the Lord." (Romans 12:19)

thank you so much for your post!! I had no idea that some Presbyterian churches followed such a process. Do they call it "excommunication" or does it go by some other name?
BTW, when I first read the article, I figured that the journalist was just trying to use the word "excommunication" in a vain attempt to sound intelligent.
