Berkeley Teacher Arrested For Prostitution

Summary: A female high school teacher in Berkeley, California, has been nabbed for operating a prostitution service.

Shannon Williams, a high school teacher in Berkeley has been arrested for agreeing to have sex with an undercover cop. Williams sees nothing wrong with having sex for money. She declared: "As a feminist I believe every woman's right to self-determination, and that includes sexually and economically."

She continued: "I feel like a gay teacher must have felt 20 years ago after being outed. I feel that prostitution laws are dinosaurs. That they're similar to sodomy laws, and they will eventually be repealed." Williams' defense attorney said that her supporters would be holding a rally outside of the courthouse in defense of prostitution.

School officials told the San Jose Mercury News that when school employees are arrested but not convicted of a crime, they may return to work but that a prostitution charge would be cause for a review.
