Schwarzenegger Would "Do Damage" to Republican Party Suggests Political Analyst

Social conservatives have a viable candidate in McClintock

TORONTO, August 28, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Steve Jalsevac, a long-time political analyst with Campaign Life Coalition Canada suggests that were actor Arnold Schwarzenegger to capture the Republican Governorship of California it would mean political damage for the Republican Party. "A core constituency within the Republican Party is its social conservatives, most importantly those who are pro-life and pro-family. Schwarzenegger is so obviously a liberal on social issues, his running as a Republican reeks of opportunism and demeans the party's integrity," said Jalsevac.

Republicans have another capable candidate in the race who is considered authentically conservative. California State Sen. Tom McClintock, first elected to the State Assembly in 1982, is also running. McClintock ran for state controller last year and lost by a margin of 0.3% to a Democrat. In that race, McClintock captured more votes than any other Republican on the ballot. In an interview with Human Events released today, McClintock acknowledges that he is pro-life and pro-family and willing to act legislatively on those convictions.

"As we have seen so many times in Canadian politics, conservative parties are usually a delicate balance between fiscal and social conservatives, and where fiscal conservatives are so insensitive as to alienate social conservatives, the Party suffers debilitating division," Jalsevac told LifeSite News. "Arnold may well give the Republicans Governorship of another state, but his strong liberal stance on social issues will damage Party unity and weaken critical differences in policy between the two major parties."

On a radio talk show yesterday, Schwarzenegger attempted to appear less offensive to social conservatives saying that he is pro-choice, but against "partial-birth" abortion; that he supports current domestic-partnership law but not gay 'marriage'". However, Schwarzenegger's Republican strategist Allan Hoffenblum was candid about the actor's negligible chances of appealing to social conservatives. Speaking of "family-value types", Hoffenblum said, "that is the group that is least likely to vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger regardless."

Please review Californian and New York history.

Electing Republicans In Name Only does not help conservatives at all...looking farther back, I cannot find a *single* instance where electing a liberal helped conservatives in the same party.

including a grateful Governor Schwarzenegger,

You are abviusly new to this. That only works with neighbors helping each other build fences and pour patios.

There is no gratitude among the GOP fifth column. They are petty, vindictive and spiteful. Arnold has surrounded himself with the Wilson minions who will go after McClintock and his supporters with a vengence after the election should Liberal Arnold the Pervert win. They've done it before, they will do it again.

The honest truth is that we don't know yet that Arnie is a RINO or simply not conservative enough.

His policies place him in such a position that whether he is one or the other is simply indecipherable...and that's a problem.

I was really rude-you are really very nice. I am sorry. Your reply is a perfect demonstration of decency which I shall remember.

This curious thing about Arnold scares me immensly. Like the Hillary thing which is likely to come.

All that aside, I really do wonder if some of these pol's & their machines have any idea how they actually look to someone who ponders what they say & do?

Bloomberg is a Democrat who purchased the Republican primary.

Democrats had nothing to lose by going full tilt in the primaries, they already held both ends of the ballot.

This is the legacy of Giuliani...conservatism wasn't even considered.

Scott, the Demonrats are about who gets the jobs and who gets the contracts. So are the RINOs. Arnold is no different and no better than Doofus or Bustamante. The claimed differences are campaign bloviation and sucker bait. The problem with RINOism is that it hasn't a clue as to the political scale because no RINO cares about anything but his/her own pocket and his/her own portfolio.

If Mexicans are your real issue, they are coming in any event and Arnold is at least honest enough to admit that there won't be any Prop. 187 fiascoes because the courts have ruled as they have in similar circumstances all over the country that you cannot deny benefits even to non-citizens that are extended to citizens. Read the 14th Amendment, all of it. I think that is ludicrous but it is the law and will continue to be. Don't argue with me. Argue with the black-robed tyrants.

Arnold will ask federal assistance in paying the bills and so will Doofus and so will Bustamante. That means: amnesty is being accepted by all three of them. The Mexicans are soon enough going to be California's voting majority. Will they be Demonrats or Republican conservatives? They will not be RINOs. Arnold's social anarchism will alienate them big time. If you want your largest minority to be as Demonratic as are the blacks, go ahead. The Demonrats will be happy to attack the white shoe Planned Parenthood GOP (not offending Planned Barrenhood, of course, but waging class warfare until the Mexicans are 90%+ Demonrat because of handouts). When the Mexicans are fully socialist and in permanent control of California because of the social issue stupidity of the RINOs and the demographics which are California's destiny, Muffy and Skipper will move their poloclub to Westport or Darien, Connecticut, leaving you in the lurch.

Every time a RINO runs, we hear the same old tired nonsense that only RINOs can win coupled with the idiocy that this election will be the last unless we finally (grabbing the lapels hysterically) WAKE UP AND REALIZE, MAN, THAT THE RINOs ARE OUR ONLY HOPE!@!@!@!

NO SALE!!!!

I don't know about that, specifically, but Arnold's friends in the GOP did.

Arnold is good friends with Riordan.

Real Christian Conservatives are the same, no matter what side of the border they come from. The "Liberals" that RULE this country are not voted in by the West which is decidedly Conservative. We have an extremely unfair voting system with the majority of the seats located in Ontario and Quebec. That essentially gives the Liberals about a l00 seat advantage even before an election gets off the ground. If the seat situation were equalized the Liberals would be turfed tomorrow. I'm one of many that would rather see the West separate. There appears to me to be no hope that Ontario will ever grab a clue and Quebec is a write off!!

"His policies place him in such a position"

Good thing that the 'men's mag" interview did not include photos of his positions at that action-event he refered to.

The honest truth is he told the world what sort he was-now what sort IS he? Do he know? He better say so muy pronto!

Republicans (i.e., principled conservatives) can and will wait three years, if need be, for the real thing. They will vote McClintock now and in 2006 will rule in a GOP primary and the general election. By then, even Barbra Streisand may be ready to support a real Republican by then. She pays taxes too.

The future of your party and your state is too valuable to roll a 2 in the crap game of 2003 by voting for the surrender monkey puppet Barbarian. Arnold is a RAT in GOP drag, no better than Doofus or Bustamante. Considering that he is managed by Wilson and advised by Buffett, that is no surprise.

Well, I wouldn`t vote for Arnie either mainly because he`s never held a public office and he`s connected at the hip with the kennedys, but this statement by Ms. Allred..She comes out bitching about some statement Arnie made 26 years ago, yet I can`t recall Ms. "womans rights" saying anything even once about Clinton. It`s like the NOW members screaming bloody murder about Sen Bob Packwood, yet when Clinton came on the scene it was a complete deafening silence. Just absolute hypocrisy

Arnold articulated several positions.

Yes, it's coming, sooner or later. There will be no arguments about pragmatism vs. principal when that day comes. And thanks for accepting my apology.

Well, I am overdue in real life; perhaps we'll meet again on another thread. :)
