Fair and Unbalanced Racism - MEChA Professor Slams Fox, O'Reily

Fair and Unbalanced Racism     -     08/29/03
     By
     Rodolfo F. Acuna

Fox News and the O'Reilly factor have touched off a tempest in the
proverbial teapot by denouncing California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante for
not renouncing his affiliation with a Chicano student organization of
which he was a member in the 1970s. These so-called journalists equate
MECHA with the Klu Klux Klan and violence, which at a time of general
     hysteria over terrorism is irresponsible.

Moreover, the accusations happen to be unfounded and lack any probative
value; one would expect more of professional journalists who are
supposedly dedicated to search for the truth using an object
methodology. Indeed, the instances that Fox News and its gaggle of talk
show hosts cite where not MECHA events but events sponsored by other
organizations. The one event that Fox News cites as violent was a July 4
demonstration in 1996 where they said Mechistas attacked black and white
Americans protesting illegal immigration. The truth is that many
groups were present at this demonstration, and it was racist nativist
     groups that attacked them.

Moreover, they accuse MEChA of association with anti-Semitic groups like
Nation of Aztlan. Here again Fox News is guilty of distorting the facts
and guilty of sloppy reporting. There no such group as the Nation of
Aztlan and most MECHAS have severed ties with any group with sexist,
     anti-Semitic or homophobic agendas.

Fox News and OReilly also mistakenly say that MEChA's motto is "for the
race, everything. For those outside the race, nothing." Again, they have
gotten wrong; actually the motto of MECHA is La union hace la fuerza
(Unity creates power). Further the gaggle charges that MECHA has 300
chapters in universities across the U.S. making the false assumption
that they have a national organization with a national office. MECHA is
a student organization with no formal central body, it has no national
office, it has no budget, and it has no constitution.

Each MECHA chapter has a set of bylaws that the student affairs office
must approve. These bylaws state that the organization is open to all
students no matter their race, sexual orientation, gender or religion.
These alleged journalist also charge that the organization is dedicated
to the creation of the Nation of Aztlan; this is a ridiculous charge.
Most MECHAs are dedicated to creating a space on the university campuses.

The organization is anything but anti-Semitism and antiblack; some of
its members are black and others are Jews. At California State
University Northridge MECHA has formed coalitions with various groups.

Despite the facts, the racist nativists are calling on Bustamante to
renounce his membership in MEChA, an organization that he belonged to
more than 30 years ago. They say that his membership in MECHA is
certainly more relevant than Arnold Schwarzenegger's father being a
Nazi. I really find this to be offensive. First because it trivializes
an ideology that murdered six million people, and second because no one
in the Latino community is stooping to this sort of demagoguery.

In my youth, I naively believed that the only hope for democracy was
higher education and the so-called Fifth Estate. In part I became a
historian because of this naivety. Through the years, I had tremendous
respect for journalist such as Edward R. Murrow.

This respect has dwindled as journalist today have abandoned objectivity
and the search for the truth, instead searching for ratings by playing
on the fears of Americans. I would hope that other journalist would show
more professionalism and base their reports on fact. The truth be told,
if I were to grade the Fox coverage it would be a fail. In the first
three paragraphs it makes five errors of fact. So much for fair and
balanced coverage; so much for professionalism.

Sorry cockroach, many others and I have been to MEChA's web site and felt the need to take a long-hot shower after viewing it.

What evades you is that so have the folks on FoxNews that you are blasting as racist.

What frightens you is that through FoxNews turning on the lights more and more will go to your hate sites and see you for what you and your beloved organization are.

CLICK!

Is that another light switch I just heard going on cockroach?

"If MECHA ever becomes a radical, violent group that starts using explosives to make their point, then things could get ugly. As long as that doesn't happen, I see them more like the NAACP for Mexicans."

Do explosives have to be used?

How bout' physically attacking a group of anti-Illegal Immigration protesters with clubs. Happened last summer at a rally at a federal building in Westwood CA.

You can sneer at the CalStates if you wish, but to call them a dumping ground for intellectual garbage—as though other more prestigious universities weren’t that as well (Angela Davis at UC, Cynthia McKinny at Cornell, and many more) is specious.

One of my sons transferred from an honors program at a UC (where he was on the dean’s list) to a CalState because he could get his computer science degree faster there, w/o the requisite politics that were tying up the program he was in. He’s now making six figures at a dot com that didn’t melt down.

Second son graduated from a UC and is still wandering in the wilderness. Another just graduated from USC magna cum laude with minimal job prospects.

Fourth son is completing a biology degree at a CalState and already teaching in a high school.

I think CalStates are great.

Splitting hairs. I don't know exactly what those sons of donkeys call themselves, but they are in fact anti-Semitic, anti-American, and pro-Muslim terrorist, as a quick glance at their periodicals will readily reveal.

Maybe we should give them what they want on a trial run.

The irony is what they're after are the "freebies."
You can give them California, Arizona, New Mexico, et al, but they'll just turn them into third world cesspools.
It's hard working Americans who made this country great, not illegals looking for hand outs.

That's a bit unfair. How about all the lefty nutball professors that infest more "prestigious" Ivy league schools, or even UCLA and Berkeley?

The MEChA logo:

Notice the stick of dynamite with the lighted fuse. Notice the bloody weapon.

The MEChA motto:

"Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada"
Translation: "Everything for The Race. Outside The Race nothing."

Very good! You have captured the true essence of MEChA!

"Everything for The Race. Outside The Race nothing."

To bad that Hitler beat them to their motto.

I just left the TV where Tony Snow is interviewing Cruz B. right now. He asked him straight out whether he repudiates the statements of Mecha, and of course he dodged it. All the more reason for no CAfornian to vote for this loser.

BS. Technically he is correct, but the first moto is a dirty little secret. I went to my local MECHA website, http://spirit.dos.uci.edu/mecha/ (Nazi looking site !) and one of the main links is to the "Plan de Aztlan". When you follow it you get what appears to be a blank page. However, when you highlight it (click and drag) the secret message appears. It includes the moto "for the race, everything. For those outside the race, nothing."

Probably the most insightful and accurate statement of the Cal State system I've read from outside the system.

Few are as perceptive to realize that the Cal State system was bastardized by the left to elevate the community college concept onto a more academic appearing plane.

As a consqence there has been an intelectual flight, both student and facualty, to the UC system leaving the UC system both overcrowded and expensive beyond it's conceptual design.

Were academic entrance standards of as little as 30 years ago applied to the Cal State system over 50% of it's entrants would be diverted to community colleges for basic foundation and remediation work. This, of course, would be impossible because the community college system was de-emphasized to promote the more prestigeous sounding Cal State system.

LOL This guy can spout off all he wants, but today on FR I read the MEChA "constitution" and it is racist from start to fininish. To accomplish what they say they want, violence would probably be unavoidable as well. Ann Coulter is correct - for as ususal the mainstrem media protects and supports America's (domestic) enemies.

MEChA: A Vehicle of Hatred

I’m no so sure about the source for these links. Take them for what they are worth.
