'Bridezilla' Fined $90 for Bad Behavior (Update!)

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) -- A woman dubbed "Bridezilla" after police said she went on a rampage at her wedding reception pleaded guilty Thursday to a reduced charge of creating a public disturbance.

Adrienne T. Samen, 18, was fined $90.

Samen, of North Haven, was arrested on criminal mischief and breach of peace charges on Aug. 16 after police responded to her wedding reception at The Mill on the River restaurant in South Windsor.

Samen allegedly became enraged after restaurant workers closed the bar at the party. She began throwing things, including wedding cake and gifts, police said. Samen left the restaurant, and police found her walking down the road in her wedding gown.

While being taken into custody, police said she kicked the door and window of the police cruiser and tried to bite an officer.

The incident received national attention, with the New York Post and other media dubbing Samen "Bridezilla."

"My behavior was very disgraceful," Samen told Judge Patricia Swords during her court appearance Thursday.

Swords fined Samen $90 and ordered her to pay for any damages to the restaurant. She also suggested Samen seek substance abuse and anger management counseling.

"This behavior does not bode well for the well-being of your marriage," said Swords.

The groom, David Samen, a 21-year-old Marine reservist, accompanied his wife to court. He came home a little over a month ago after serving in Iraq for six months, said Evelyn Vitalie, David's mother. David and Adrienne eloped before he left and wanted a bigger ceremony once he came home.

"I'm happy," said Vitalie. "When he married her, I finally had a daughter."

The couple honeymooned at Dollywood, country music star Dolly Parton's amusement park in Tennessee. But Adrienne Samen said they were forced to cut short the vacation after being hounded by reporters.

"There really wasn't one (a honeymoon)," she said.

Samen said she will tell her side of the story during an appearance next month on a television talk show hosted by Sharon Osbourne, wife of heavy metal music star Ozzy Osbourne.

"I'm sorry to certain people, like my family and some of the police officers," she said.

She used a derogatory word in describing other officers, and accused them of damaging her wedding ring.

South Windsor police Sgt. Matthew Reed said the bride threw the ring to the ground. No complaint about the ring has been filed, he said.

Liz Gioielli, the banquet manager at the Mill on the River, said the restaurant was not damaged, but workers did have a lot of glass to clean up.

Military guys tend to make big mistakes when it comes to getting married. Lonliness, drunkenness, doing the honorable thing before shipping out, etc. My brother married at the age of 21 to a girl with really big hair and a nasty attitude to boot. Seemed like the popular thing to do in his company. Marriages seemed to last 2 years at most.

Would be nice if the NCOs with some wisdom could sit these boys down and explain the pitfalls of marrying women that young......

What a hoot. I live about two miles from this restaurant. Nice place - they do a lot of weddings and the food is pretty good. Its located on a relatively busy residential road (speed limit=40) with no sidewalks. But there's really no place for her to walk to, its all houses...

I can just picture a bride stomping down the road in a gown along the shoulder, cars honking at her, she flipping the bird, etc.

On the other hand, she married a Jarhead, so this might be a variation of the approved USMC courtship rituals.

Yes, the Marine reads Klingon love poetry while the object of his affections throws things at him :o)

All of a sudden this story has lost its humor. However much she deserves ridicule, it now gets into the realm of demeaning him. Let's not make it harder for someone who made a huge sacrifice to go and fight in Iraq.

I hope that you will ask the admin moderator to remove this post. There is nothing to be gained by making this Marine's life any more miserable. We owe him thanks, not further embarrassment.

Doesn't matter to me if the thread is deleted. It's been on FR in different threads, so I posted the update.

I have a feeling this poor soldier has his hands full with this girl (not mature enough to be called a woman). I would say his embarrassment will grow by future stupid acts by his choice in females. He must learn to reap what he sows.

Most do. Unfortunately many NCOs get hit, normally about six hours prior to deployment, with "Oh, Gunny. Me and Norma got married last weekend. Do I need to fill out any paperwork?"

Not so. He's A MARINE, fer gawsh sakes, and he'll take plenty of kidding from his Marine buddies about his wife...from guys who are just a little jealous that their wives and girlfriends don't have just a little more hellcat spark to 'em.

And I can think of no better hubby for her than that young Marine. Granted, she may be a wee tad deficient in the social graces, but over time, she just might pick up some of those skills from her fellow Marine wives, who'll get as much of a giggle out of her antics as their husbands have. If that's not the way others outside that Marine family do it that's fine; they also don't have to live with the knowledge of what it means when their husband's commanding officer and platoon leader show up at the front door with a chaplain. I'd rather see her tear up a dozen rental halls than ever have to go through that, and I'd cheerfully help.

Maybe that youngster will stick with the Marines; maybe not- that's his chioce to make, based on his experience with the Corps. But some good-natured if slightly envious ribbing from his buddies is a pretty fair price to pay for the support and backing those same guys will give that Marine bride if any outsiders, ANYONE gives her any serious shi! or grief. They will have their arms and legs ripped off and be severely beaten about the body with them; no doubt.

And if that youngster and his wife do stay together and keep their home with their Corps? Someday, a hard-ass bunch of gunny sergeants will be at their NCO club or a barbecue, bragging about their wives, and the baddest one of the bunch will look at the others and reach for a faded newspaper clipping he carries in his pocket, probabably laminated with her old picture on it. I can almost hear him now: that ain't nothing you guys...let me tell you about my old lady....

Marines take care of their own, even [especially!] when they're a little overenthusiastic, aggressive, overzealous or hellacious; those are corerectable offenses and not the most damning characteristics for a Marine, or his wife. If she's around her Marine and the Marines for a while, her excesses will be diluted without extinguishing that spark in her that makes her very well suited for the not-easy life she and her husband may be facing forever, until death parts them. But, please God, not too soon....
