MSNBC had an item on NEW rumblings about HRC running in 2004.. It was in conjunction with more on Wes Clark also getting serious about a run..Mentioned something about a 'high level mtg' that the OTHER Dem candidates were informed of.... Ickes has formed a 'soft money group' which could benefit HRC, and, again, some high level mtg about the possibility of her running. ..Nachman and Bill Press will be discussing this SOON on msnbc...tune in NOW.

I agree that while she is the Democrats' wet dream---er, maybe I should rephrase that---in fact she would alienate so many people and unite the conservative Republicans who (with a Gore or Kerry or Clark might stay home), it would result in a phenomenal blowout. Not quite as big as a Dean nomination, but a huge blowout.

This is exactly why Wesley Clark is being talked up as a Presidential candidate. Not to be President (at least not now) but to be Hillarys running mate. Think about it. He was #1 in his class at West Point and was a Rhodes scholar. He is from Arkansas (thus a southerner). A retired 4 star general and former head of NATA. Close friend of the Clintons. On paper he is everything Hillary and the Dems are not. To the Dems he would be a perfect VP for Hillary because he is strong where she is weak. If Hillary does not run in 04 and Dean gets the nomination then Clark would be perfect for VP for all the same reasons. The Dems are perceived by the general public as weak on defense. Thus having a retired general as a VP would be a perfect balance to the ticket particulary to liberals like Dean or Hillary. Plus if Dean is the nominee the Clintons would have one of their own as the VP and thus would still have a voice in things. It is so obvious that I cannot believe I did not think about it before.

Think about this REAL good. Hitlery simply has no charm, no wit, no brains, is dictatorial and has too many strikes against her which would bring out every damn last anti-Hillary voter there is. It would be a disaster for the entire party with people voting a straight Republican ticket, "to make sure".Oh believe me, I agree with you 100%. Bill Clinton is the one with the schmoozing ability and the charm; Hitlery has a total meltdown on every single on of those rare occasions when her handlers screw up and allow her to speak freely or be asked a question by one of The Little People. And you can't get elected to the presidency without facing The Little People. Serious voters in Iowa and New Hampshire literally expect to meet and interrogate each and every candidate at least several times before their caucuses/primaries; if Hillary just went to those states and gave a couple of speeches and refused to face the crowds directly like she did in New York, she'll be lucky to pull 5%.

And the dems and RINO's in the senate will make sure that no one get to the bench who would vote republican next time. They'd keep it split 4-4 for as long as it took. Nope, Bush can recess appoint Robert Bork for 6 months anytime a vacancy came up.

I thought Clinton didn't have a prayer when he first started. This will be a hard fought race no matter who is the nominee.I'm too old to take any race for granted.

I think she will trigger a Civil War in the Democratic Party. Many Dean supporters are not happy with the Clintons.I'm torn. The partisan Republican side of me would love to see Dean fail, in part because I think he's more of a threat in the general election than generally perceived, and even more so because I believe you are right: If Dean gets the nomination he'll attempt to purge the clintonista toadies from their positions of power within the party, starting with McAwful. This may make the Dems even weaker in the short run, but it is the necessary beginning of reform and rebuilding for the party.
My Republican side, however, which would love to see the Dems remain mired in clintonite corruption and counterproductive power-grasping, is overruled by my American side, which would prefer reasonably responsible parties on both sides of the isle.
God help me but I gotta root for Dean, and eventual 'Rat reform (even if it has to go through an ugly faze when it moves even further left). In the long run the Republican party will also fall into ever deepening corruption if it doesn't have responsible and creditable opposition.

You're right about soccer moms being a bit dimwitted, but I think in a post 9/11 world, national security is paramount. Maybe, (and that is a BIG maybe) but that would be right now. In a few months, it won't be that big of an issue for the air-head soccer-moms.

I disagree with you. I think there are many people who voted for Gore who would not consider voting for Hillary, including many Dem women. She alienates many women as much as she does conservatives. Gore has the advantage of NOT UNITING the Republicans---of keeping the "broken glass Republicans" home. No one will stay home if HRC is the nominee. Period. You don't know the meaning of "negative turnout" til you see her mobilize the GOP base.

However, I believe a Dean disaster in 2004 is in Hillary's best interest YEs, but if Wesley Clark runs, he will defeat Dean and screw up her plans. That is why this thread exists to begin with...the playing field has changed with Clark's approaching entry.

What if she has her friends hit the CONUS with a terror attack before the election?
She could strut out in her new brown pantsuit with the crooked cross jewelry and her gleaming jackboots and declare;
"The streets of our cities are in turmoil. The students are rioting on the universities. We need law and order!
Without it we can not survive!"

Now, now. Say "oooooommmmmmm, ooooooommmmm," and think of gentle waves, gentle waves. That's right.I've tried SO hard not to think of THEM. I've tried to pretend that 1992-2000 was akin to that year between the time Pam died on Dallas until she walked out of the shower and into Bobby's arms--it was all a dream, a bad dream, you know--but SHE--no, THEY--keep reminding me of those horrible, wretched years of pain, anger and anguish. And now SHE'S BAAAAACK. twitch twitch twitch

That's what I said yesterday. She will not allow Dean to win. He may get the nomination, but the Clintons will kneecap him, and ensure he doesn't restructure the party apparatus.
