[history]
Sacramento -- Tom McClintock is in remarkable good humor. New polls have the Republican state senator running a distant third in his bid to replace Gov. Gray Davis in the Oct. 7 recall election, but politically, that's a glass that's half full, not half empty.

Looks like McClintock is comfortable with his role as a "spoiler" for Arnold. He has a history of losing in tight races. So be it. California Republican can kick themselves for the next 4 years -- then for another 4 years -- because Bustamonte will be the Governor.
Ousting Gray Davis will be a phyrric victory at best. Bustamonte, with his hidden Mexican-illegals agenda will turn Californicated into a trash heap.
The Clintons could not have written a better script to turn Califonia into a third world country.

Tom is giving it a race. If Arnold can stand the heat it will only make him strong. And I don't think Arnold's stance as a moderate Republican is quite by accident. Go Tom, go!!!

Yes, Gray Davis retaining power would be 100 times better than Bustamante, who's first act would no doubt be to allow Mexicans with Matricula cards to VOTE, setting off a nationwide crisis. A vote for McClintock is a vote for Bustamante. I'd rather have a governor who is comfortable in orgies, than one who's idea of an "orgie" is mass murder of Gringos, Jews and blacks.

Sounds to me like McClintock has a viable plan to fix California.
Arnold and Busta plan to spend more money to try and fix things.
A plan to spend is a plan that will fail.
Failure with a D-Governor is simply business as usual in California. Failure with an R-Governor will ultimately doom California to a long string of D-government and a hundred years of socialism.
However, the last time California had success with an R-Governor, we were eventually blessed with one of the greatest presidents of all time

Bustamante, who's first act would no doubt be to allow Mexicans with Matricula cards to VOTE, setting off a nationwide crisis They shouldn't register to vote if they're not citizens, and CA doesn't check ID when one votes.
Clinton passed Moter-voter, and Davis says he'll pass SB60 to issue drivers licenses to illegal aliens. It's only a small step further for illegal aliens to perjure themselves on the voter registration form attached to their drivers license application forms (which they could obtain free at the DMV without applying for a drivers license anyway).
Illegal aliens registering to vote in CA has nothing to do with Bustamante or Matricula Consular cards.

Cheer McClintock loudly and long. He is the Ross Perot of 2003. Bustamonte will ride to vctory over the bodies of die hard conservatives who refuse to smell the coffee. GOP conservatives will vote for principals over a possible victory every time. So be it.
Hope you are learning to speak Spanish, my FReeper friend. I moved out of Californicated at the end of 2000. This time next year -- when businesses are jamming the freeways to get out of the state -- your income taxes and property taxes will be going up: To pay for social services and medical costs for illegal immigrants.

"Gray Davis retaining power would be 100 times better than Bustamante..."
That implies a No vote on recall. A very interesting idea which might be the best - if a conservative can't win.
To: ex-Texan
And "moderates" will vote for "victory" over any principle every time . . . Which, is why we end up w/ garbage rino's who are as bad or worse then liberal dems. We just have a different definition of victory. We believe victory occurs when conservative ideals are advanced, even if by a little bit. "moderates" seem to believe victory occurs when there is an "r" next to the winners name, even if not a single conservative ideal is advanced, and in fact the opposite occurs

With Arnold's "positions" on issues like supporting amnesty for illegal aliens, tax increases and gun control, why aren't Republicans pressuring him to drop out so the voters can have a clear choice... fiscally conservative McClintock or tax and spend Bustamante? It's obvious who would win at this point, and it wouldn't be the loudmouth, MECHa blowhard.
To: ex-Texan
Tick, tock, tick, tock....that is the sound of the clock counting down the time until Tom drops out of the race to support the leader, Arnold. He will do so for the same reason that Issa and Simon did.

Actually, amnesty is in the hands of the feds, so Arnold can't do anything about it. Arnold has already said he will cut spending, not raise taxes to solve the deficit. The Cali governor has a line item veto to ensure the budget is balanced. The reason for the recall is that Davis hasn't used that power to balance the budget.
If Tom were the leader in the polls, Arnold would be the one dropping out. As he is not, he will be the one to fall on his sword at the appropriate time.

Arnold and Busta plan to spend more money to try and fix things. Your source for Arnold planning to spend money to fix things. Or is it your imagination? McClintock ought to be worrying about running against Bustamante ... instead he's spending all his time bashing Arnold. He can't seem to keep his eye on the ball.

Actually, amnesty is in the hands of the feds, so Arnold can't do anything about it. That's what they all say isn't it, that's it a federal problem? Is it a coincidence illegal alien suck up NY governor Pataki is supporting Arnold?
This is the direction the entire Republican party is going, including at the federal level. No thanks, illegals are lawbreakers, we have no business giving them anything but the boot. And any so-called "Republican", whether at the state or federal level who says otherwise should be given the same treatment. Country comes before party, and our future, and that of our kids is at stake.
To: TheDon
Hope you are correct. But the more air time McClintock gets -- the more support he receives -- the dimmer this recall "victory" appears. McClintock will delay his withdrawal until the last minute -- if he does withdraw. In the end that will only keep conservative voters away from the polls. Sad situation, but that is the truth as I see it. Arnold is far better than 8 more years of financial craziness.
Bustamonte will totally ruin California.

Sorry bud, we tried that with prop 187, which Arnold supported by the way. The federal judiciary told us we couldn't deny illegal aliens schooling and medical care. Are you suggesting we should break the law, or perhaps work to have the federal laws changed?

I think Tom will drop out sooner than later. Several weeks before the election, at least.
