Some Fear Media Will Seek Graphic Details; Others Say Public Should Hear

NEWARK, N.J. -- Depending on whom you talk to, there is dread and support for the Thursday's release of transcripts of emergency calls made from the World Trade Center towers during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

A state judge in New Jersey ruled Friday that the transcripts of emergency transmissions must be released by 5 p.m. EDT Thursday.

The Port Authority, which owned the trade center, argued it was trying to protect the privacy of victims' families by preventing the release of the transcripts. They cover radio transmissions and calls to Port Authority police on the morning of the attacks.

A woman whose husband died in the towers said she dreads the release of the transcripts.

"For me and my children, it's like being slapped in the face with it happening again," she said.

But another widow welcomed the release of transcripts, saying the public needs the knowledge.

Some people fear the media will only seek the most graphic details

I did a search under "emergency" and "transcripts" and it didn't come up, which surprised me. I thought somebody would have been all over this story by now.

Some Fear Media Will Seek Graphic Details

"Some" meaning, of course, Islamists and their apologists.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but why is a New Jersey judge ruling on this?

Not that I'm against it, I think it should be played every Friday, come rain or shine.

Post the calls from the people who's families want them posted.
It's as simple as that.
Oh, yeah....instead of radio silence for one minute on Sept 11 this year, play the calls.
Never forget.

"But another widow welcomed the release of transcripts, saying the public needs the knowledge."

The public DOES need the knowledge. Otherwise, the left will slowly but surely continue to wittle away at the horror of that day until every high school graduate in the US will "know" the US brought this on themselves by allying with the Vast, Zionist conspiracy. The NEA started the campaign right after 9/11/01.

You are right. Play it, play it, play it. Keep it in front of us. This one can never be relegated to the shadows. Don't let those who sympathize with the killers off the hook.

I don't know why a New Jersey judge is ruling on this, unless the Port Authority is actually based out of New Jersey.

I think the transcripts should be released, as anecdotal evidence of 9/11 which is a major historical event in the history of our country.

"Some" meaning, of course, Islamists and their apologists.

Actually, if you read the story, it quotes a 9/11 widow as dreading the release because it will be like it's happening all over again for her and her children.

I saw where you're keeping up with the 9/11 info, so here's another one for you. If you have a 9/11-related ping list, feel free...

There was a story I read shortly after 9/11 about a wife that had a message on her answering machine left by her husband. I wish I could find that story again.

Yup, the WTC attack is just a distant memory to "liberals" aka America haters.

I despise them for their cowardice, their treachery and their destructiveness.

And "their apologists" would include the media. No need to fear that they will exploit this. The last thing those liberal curs want to do is stir up feelings of patriotism, anger and demands for greater national security. After all, that might help Bush get reelected.

This is much-needed shock therapy for those who have forgotten why we are at war...

It pains me a great deal when I hear of more soldiers dying over in Iraq (two more today), but I know they haven't died in vain.

I found this on the web from 09/14/01 which includes a story about a woman, her husband and the answering machine.

Reading it again brought it all back; the hurt is overwhelming.

Thanks, but the one I remember reading was about a woman in Hawaii. She got a call around 4 am and didn't answer it or something like that. Anyway, she woke up later and saw the news, then checked the machine.

I wanted to let you know I finally got around to buying that DVD you were talking to me about. Very powerful stuff.

For the rest of y'all, she recommended the HBO special "In Memoriam, New York City 9/11/01". I pass on the recommendation. It's available on DVD. Very moving. It includes snippets of videos, photos, audios, from news cameramen and private citizens, most of which I've never seen before. We don't have HBO, so I didn't see it when it first aired.
