McClintock Lays Out His Plans For California
Human Events ^ | Aug 27, 2003 | David Freddoso

Posted on 08/27/2003 4:18:45 PM PDT by Vindiciae Contra TyrannoSCOTUS

State Sen. Tom McClintock (R.), a candidate for governor of California, spoke to HUMAN EVENTS' editorial board Monday on a variety of issues facing the state, including its deficit, its hostile business climate, immigration, and his opponents in the recall election.

McClintock said he would begin to enforce Proposition 187 if elected, and to give the 1994 ballot measure-which cut off state services to illegal immigrants-a fair day in court.

He also promised not to raise taxes, and criticized rival candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger (R.) for his refusal to make such a promise. McClintock identified several specific budget cuts he would make as governor, including the abolition of dozens of unnecessary state agencies and commissions, and called for a thorough downsizing of the state’s education bureaucracy and a return to local control and accountability.

The senator also called on another rival, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (D.) to repudiate his reputed past involvement with the racist organization MEChA-a radical Mexican-American separatist group whose aims include the establishment of an independent "Chicano" nation in the southwestern United States.

HUMAN EVENTS will publish an edited transcript of the 30-minute interview this week.

Schwarzenegger, a democrat trapped in a Rino label, poses as a Republican while being dangerously addicted to himself. WorldNetDaily: Research: 1/3 of us worship celebrities

Half of Arnold's support will evaporate if McClintock continues to improve in the polls. All the people saying that he can't be elected are going to start to realize that he CAN, as long as conservatives actually do get out the vote for him.

As much as I like what McClintock stands for, you are wrong. Schwarzenegger will get the lion's share of the big fat middle. Moreover, Schwarzenegger can actually accomplish what McClintock could not in office. If McClintock could get elected, McClintock would be the subject of a recall himself (not that there would be any basis for it other than Rat retribution). His governorship would come under seige from the left and the media (I know, one in the same). He would go nowhere with the current legislature and would not be able to go over the heads of the media to the people. It takes a special breed to do this, like Reagan (possibly Arnold). I wish you were not dreaming, but WAKE UP!

Good. Then there's no reason for conservatives to abandon principles. Go McClintock!

This isn't to the thread-starter but rather to whomever keeps putting those 26KWELFARE-whatever keywords in recall-related threads. I had to ask yesterday to what this referred, and I was pointed to posts by someone asserting that McClintock was somehow acting inappropriately for accepting housing allowances and other living-expense payments accorded to all state legislators to recompense them for keeping two households.

Setting that aside, it's infantile to post keywords like that. Jeeze.

And does Arnold of some kind of spots that reveal what breed he is? Because all I see is a shallow liberal Hollywood celebrity.

If you had followed Tom McClintock through his career as I have, you would know that he is an uncompromising deep thinker who will be the best voice for conservatism this country has seen since Reagan, perhaps since John Adams.

How does McC who only gets the conservative talk radio vote plan to expand his base?
Where is he planning to get the time to build up the trust of the voter in him?

I think after the 17th, only the leading candidate should stay and the others should go after endorsing the leader.

If in days McC can raise his base by 500%, he has a slight chance.

McC has no draw outside of the radio talk show right, so he IMO is limited whereas Arnold draws from many places.

The 17th is D-day!

NV VRWC are launching a recall of their governor

Interesting. Over the unconstitutional tax-hike OK'd by the state supremes? I hope the recall targets the six justices who went along with it.

It's too bad people can not get behind the best man. I don't dislike Arnold; but I feel McClintock is the better man for the job.

Your (our?) candidate's getting pretty aggressive, Cathryn. He's going after both Cruz and Arnold here. ;-)

We'll see....

The best is "Arnold is a rank amateur to politics."

Listen, Arnold has been around much loftier political environs than Tom (ever will). McClintock doesn't boast a phalynx of some of the biggest political movers and shakers in the world. Arnold has been hob-knobbing with folks like these for years. Also, navigating through Hollywood is like baptism by fire--re politics. Don't you watch TV and read the Enquirer?

If you think Arnold can be played like a fiddle, you really are dreaming, and have no clue with respect to his capabilities and Mr. McClintock's shortcomings--"I received the highest number of votes of any republican candidate for a statewide office." PLEASE.

I've worked with the Davis administration. Now there are rank amateurs; from top to bottom. I could tell you hilarious stories of high camp and ineptitude. That's why we are having a gubanatorial recall get on the ballot after how many previous tries?

Unfortunately, you are confusing principles and experience in legislative office (lauditory though they may be) with leadership qualifications.

I watched McClintock interviewed by Judy "Dean Makes me Orgasmic" Woodruff the other day. In comparison to recent Arnold performances, McClintock is the amateur. He came off very poorly. Arnold would have handled her properly. Believe me, this matters.

I'll look forward to it, and I hope you or someone else posts it when it becomes available.

If anyone wants to ask McClintock any policy questions, he'll guest host for Roger Hedgecock today, 3-6PM on AM-600 throughout most of Southern CA. Call in: 800-600-KOGO

I read where NV VRWC are launching a recall of their governor. I couldn't find it posted on FR though.

I heard about it on the radio, but haven't seen it on FR, either. They said that NV's threshold is 25% of the last vote for the office in only 90 days (compared to 12% in 160 days for CA's governor, and different from the below article from klas-tv.com). That's much more difficult than it is for us, although we actually ended up with 2 million signatures, or around 25% of the last vote, in about 100 days, demonstrating the unpopularity of Davis; all previous 30-something attempts to recall CA governors failed.

Here's what I found (not on FR):
Group Seeks To Recall Guinn
KLAS, NV - Aug 26, 2003

(Aug. 26) -- A group trying to recall Gov. Kenny Guinn is about to put its plan into action. The Committee to Recall Gov. Guinn says it will notify the secretary of state on Wednesday that it wants a recall.

Upset about tax increases, group leaders say they have more than 600 volunteers ready to circulate petitions and collect the more than 128,000 signatures needed to recall Guinn. At least 25 percent of those signatures have to be from people who voted in the 2002 General Election.

After notifying the Secretary of State's Office, the group has 90 days to get the necessary signatures.
