WASHINGTON -- Wisconsin businessman Tim Michels said he's running for U.S. Senate.
Michels is a Republican and joins Republican state Sen. Bob Welch in the battle to take on U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold next year.
Michels said he's raised $200,000 so far. Feingold, a Democrat, had $1.9 million as of June 30.
The 41-year-old Michels said his campaign's main theme will be national security.

Where can I get more info on him? Right now I am backing Welch because he is lives almost in my back yard, but I don't know if he can or will get the support from the rest of the State.
We need a big name Conservative. I truly think that Feingold is beatable, in the last couple of years Wisconsin is swinging to the right (Rat Gov Doyle being the exception, but he ran against an unpopular incompetant opponent, and Ed Thompson (I) got over 10% of the vote), and is ripe for the taking. I think the White House knows this too. Bush WILL take Wisconsin in 2004 (barring huge Dem voting Fraud), and if we have a strong competitor, we will also boot Feingold out.

Michels has been rumored to have said that he will spend 2 million of his own money in a race against Feingold.
He is a wealthy business man and has lots of Business connections in Wisconsin.
He also has served in the military.
THe white house is said to favor him over Welch.

I really do like Welch, but if Michaels is the better chance to beat Feingold, thats who I will support. I will be doing some research in the next couple of months.
My first choice would have been Mark Green, US Congressman, but it looks like he is waiting to take on Doyle for Govenor next time. I have heard of Michaels, but don't know enough right now to make up my mind.
By the way, have you heard rumors that Russ Darrow is thinking about jumping in the race? Is he officially a Republican? I don't think he has ever held office, and in Wisconsin you don't have to register with any group. The only reason I ask is because he has huge name recognition with all of his car lots.

Marc Newman already tried it! No chance! Wisconsin is infested with flaming liberals! Milwaukee/Madison! (THAT'S THE STATE RIGHT THERE!!!!!!!!!)
Marc Newman should be ONE of our U.S. Senators instead of crapolla Feingold ( Marc lost by soooo little)!!! I live in a liberal cesspool (Milwaukee), what can I say.
Marc said he won't run again :(
In reality I believe WI is a "conservative" state, however, with the biggest cities (Milwaukee and Madison), being very liberal, I would be surprised if Bush can carry my state of Wisconsin in '04.
My bet...Wisconsin AGAIN gets the lib vote. WHY? TWO CITIES; Milwaukee and Madison!

I heard something about Darrow but haven't read anything since. Off topic a bit, but I bought my Honda Accord from Russ Darrow (92nd and Silver Spring).
Shortly thereafter, I found out that my parents were invited to Scott Walker's winning (take over!) campaign dinner (My Mom and I helped in his campaign, so Mom and Dad got the tickets to attend).
I was pleased to find out that Russ Darrow III (the young guy in the commericals), was on the list of those who would attend.
I love my Accord even more now!

Do you think he stands a chance?
OH, to topple McCain's best buddy Feingold...

Isn't it odd that WI elections are now subject to possible Democrat fraud, considering that under the late Gov. and Sen. Robert M. La Follette, Sr., the state was "squeaky clean"? WI in fact started the direct primary to take the nomination process from the "bosses." La Follette signed rail and insurance regulation laws. The "WI Idea" was the "liberal dream" of the early 20th Century.

I'm pretty sure that Joe McCarthy ruined the Republican party in WI. Even though Ann Coulter and George Herman have written books clearing McCarthy of the false allegations long raised against him by the left, the people of WI will remain "anti-McCarthy" and thus "anti-Republican" for another generation. And the Democrats will continue as the majority in the Badger State.

Feingold...McCain...One in the same.
LOL! Did I just make a ryhme?

As a 31-year Wisconsin resident, and an avid follower of state politics, I say "Tim
who?"
I'd rather see Mark Green in this race. I like Scott Walker also, but he's got his hands full right now.
