Republican Unity Pact over Recall - Please Sign
IPetition ^ | 8/27/2003 | Jagrmeister

Posted on 08/27/2003 1:53:46 AM PDT by jagrmeister

Conservatives,

One thing we can agree on is that we want Gray Davis out of office on October 7th. We agree we want a Republican to replace him and not Cruz Bustamante, who is Gray Davis by another name. While we differ on which candidates to support at the moment, we know that unity will be essential to win on Election Day. Should we divide our vote three ways, we will surely lose to the Davis-Bustamante team. Therefore, I am urging all Republicans, no matter who you support, to sign the Unity Pact petition. It is online at: http://www.ipetitions.com/campaigns/UnityPact . The theme is 'Compete, then Coalesce'. All campaigns ought to compete vigorously then coalesce behind the strongest candidate. That's all this petition says. The backers of this petition include several GOP county chairmen of California counties. Please add your name today. And pass the word on. Thanks!

The poll will be taken no earlier than September 5th and no later than September 7th . All candidates will abide by its results.

Before the debates, natch.

The theme is 'Compete, then Coalesce'.

Truth in advertising would dictate that it would more properly have as its theme 'Prematurely Capitulate, don't Compete'.

Why take the poll so early? I understand absentee ballots begin to go out Sept 7th or so, but most people won't vote immediately when they know debates are coming up within a few days.

There's a danger of positions being exposed at the debates.

No capitulation necessary. Let's compete, then survey the voters. Absent a primary, this is the next best thing.

The only debate that would feature Arnold along with the others is the 17th. So we can't afford to wait that long. Whoever is the frontrunner by the 7th needs a month to make his case to the people. Right now, that's not getting out- there's a lot of carping and the signal to noise ratio is too high.

You've got to be kidding me. Sen. McClintock's best chance is a three way race.

I guess we need to remind all these RINO's rampaging for Arnie what FR is all about.

Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web.

Actually, I doubt many absentee voters will have voted by then -- three weeks before the election, with plenty of time to mail the ballots. I think polling on Sept 18th would be a better time for the unity pact than Sept 5th-7th.

Whoever is the frontrunner by the 7th needs a month to make his case to the people. Right now, that's not getting out- there's a lot of carping and the signal to noise ratio is too high.

They should all be making their case to the people right now. I doubt Tom or Arnold would change his position or need to make a different case to the people if the other dropped out.

Yeah, the signal to interference ratio seems especially high on FR lately, with lots of Freepers attacking others for disagreeing on their favorite candidates. It would help if the candidates created some more new news or campaigned more visibly so there would be something new to discuss besides the most recent poll results.

I would only add that all shooting be aimed at the enemy, Davis/Bustamenta. Friendly fire casualties will only help the enemy.

My neighbor is very distressed to learn I am supporting Arnold. You see, he volunteers at the local Democrat party headquarters and he was hoping I would be supporting McClintock.

Anedotal yes, but to me, VERY telling! Cruz NEEDS McClintock in the race in order for Cruz to beat Arnold! Democrats KNOW this. Damn shame that McClintockers do not.
