Bustamante will not "move up" to become Governor. If the voters vote by a majority to remove Davis, at the very instant the Secretary of State certifies that result, whoever holds a plurality in the race to replace him becomes the new Governor.

There is no gap in which Bustamante "becomes" Governor. Davis remains Governor until that precise moment. Bustamante's only chance to "become" Governor depends on his winning that election. (I discount to zero the possibility that Davis will resign under any circumstances. He has the same all-consuming ego as Clinton -- who also should have resigned, but did not.)

It is a logical tactic for all the Republican candidates to demand that Bustamante put his money where his mouth is. If Davis is rejected on the recall vote, and Bustamante does not win the replacement election, then the whole Davis-Bustamante regime will be repudiated. (It is the same tactic as demanding that Lyndon Johnson or Joseph Lieberman resign from their Senate races as they were running for President and Vice President in their respective years.)

Assume that Bustamante does not resign. It is in the power of the new Governor to assign him an office in the men's john with no phone and no fax. Then, that Governor can assign any other person to undertake the advisory and ceremonial offices that would otherwise belong to the Lt. Gov. Are you with me so far?

McClintock's only possibility of becoming Governor, given the present electorate and habits of voting in California, is if he becomes second-in-command to Schwarzenegger. Absent that, McC has no chance at that office. So, the agreement I describe makes sense both for Schwarzenegger and for McClintock.

That does not mean it will happen, only that it is both logical and possible.

Already happened to Bustamate... Davis took away all of his parking spots. Beyond that, there isn't much else he can do. The Lt. Governor is a constitutional officer and his office budget is set by the legislature, not the governor.

California is no worse off under Demobnrats than under Schwarzenegger no matter what lies Arnold may tell. Your second last paragraph may be meant sincerely but it is the same horsehockey that the Northeastern state GOPs handed out for years.

A person might argue that Jimmy Carter was culturally so evangelical as to drive Massachusetts voters to vote for Reagan in 1980. Certainly Mondale was not to liberal much less too Bible believing for Massachusetts and he lost worse to Reagan than Carter did.

The only stock in trade in the RINO Dry Goods store is pessimism and crepe-hanging. Reject them and they will go away. Their goods are fraudulent.

Wilson is a menace to society and an affront to decent people.

The only reason the RINOs suggest that agreement is to put lipstick on the pig (Arnold). It doesn't work and the pig will come to resent it. It would destroy McClintock with the only constituency that matters: the conservatives. Electing Arnold accomplishes NOTHING conservative. Better to fight another day if Arnold were the only alternative. Happily he is not.
