Freepers, I've seen a couple of 9/11 sites. Some are pretty good. I want a site that a) comes up pretty quickly; b) doesn't have a long drawn-out intro; c) includes the horrible pictures. This is for students in college. I want them to remember, but I do have limited time, and can't have a 10-minute intro. Also, I'd prefer it not to be too preachy, but to let the images/music do all the talking. Suggestions?
Thanks.

No flash and no graphics makes for a boring site. Good luck.

Show them
this.
It's a keen insight into the mind of the American liberal.

Saw the site.
Local law enforcement belongs to the left. No surprises.

Go to any Hollywood Video and rent "9/11". You can even buy it now, used, for under $10.00.
Start at the section, "It was 8:43 in the morning..."
Get permission slips, it does contain some foul language.
This footage was shot by two French guys who were tracking the progress of a probationary fireman as he became a full-fledged fire-fighter. It contains the only known footage shot INSIDE the WTC almost immediately after the attack, the only known footage of the first plane striking the WTC, and depicts in real-time what it was like to be in the first tower as the second tower fell.
If you can, devote a FULL TWO classes to it. Just play it, and bring boxes of tissues. It will horrify you all over again. Absolutely NO commentary will be necessary. You can get an easy week's worth of lessons out of it.
I bought it for my children. My son was only 18 months old when it happened, and my daughter was born two months after it happened. I remember it like it was yesterday. I want them to understand what it was like, to be able to grasp, even tangentially, the magnitude of the event. I don't want them to have that same dulled expression on their face as I did when my parents discussed the bombing of Pearl Habour.
Forget the internet. Go with a medium they know so intimately, and is the most effective - TV. Have them do supplemental research on the internet. But for the center point of your lesson plans, use the video (preferably the DVD, which will allow you to jump to the sections most relevant to you lesson plan for the day).

Very informative post about teaching 9-11 in the classroom, recommending the video
"9/11" (available at
Hollywood Video) and how to present it. This should be put out for future reference. "Writer" is indeed an interesting writer, as well!

This is a good one. It needs some music, but still effective.

Good advice - I didn't know that film was available. The entire film is an amazing documentary but the horror of the sounds of bodies hitting the pavement is something I will never forget.

Well, I guess I didn't mean no sound or no flash, but it does have to load in a reasonable amount of time. Any suggestions?

Same here.
I have several friends/family members who are police officers in NYC. Spent the first 30 years of my life on Long Island.
The post-9/11 talks I had with them were stunted and brutal. They were describing horrors that the media did not show.
But that sound...that awful sound...

Take them to Ground Zero. They wont need a computer for that memory.

Sorry, too much time for a 50 minute history class.
