Thousands of freshmen and transfer students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill discussed a summer reading book on the tough lives of Americans working low-wage jobs. The campus' 3,500 new students talked Monday about "Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America," a best seller by Barbara Ehrenreich. A leftist social critic, Ehrenreich wrote about her experiences working at jobs including a Wal-Mart store and for a maid service.

"Hopefully, by the time you're 18, you're able to think for yourself. I didn't come here to get one slant on things,"said Nathan Danneman of Raleigh.

Well you're at the wrong University then Nathan.

My husband and I were just talking about leftist brainwashing at universities last night. The recent release of the Weatherman murderess, Kathy Boudin made me think of another ex-hippie terrorist, that my husband once knew Leo Fredrick Burt. Burt was one of the bombers of the Madison armory in Wisconsin, the only one still at large. My husband knew him before he went to college, they rowed in the same shell for Penn AC. This was not a group that would be likely to breed a leftist terrorist. Something happened to that guy at the University of Wisconsin that changed his life. I hope that the leftist professors at that school are satisfied with the job they did. I bet his parents aren't.

But this was a party hardy jock from the mainline, not an activist type. What would have attracted him to the Armstrong brothers?

You look at pictures of him from his rowing days and then the picture on his FBI wanted poster and it doesn't even look like the same guy. My husband thinks that the catalyst was drugs.

Lots of college kids work at minimum wage jobs during the summer while going to school 8 or 9 months of the year. What I have found to be true of the "permanent" minimun wage workers is that they prefer to recieve the lowest possible wage such as to milk the system for the maximun benefits from the "Great Society." I even know of one such gentleman who left a 12 dollar an hour job for an easy 5.25 dollar an hour job and got drunk and went to detox just so he could qualify for welfare and lots of other benefits. Why work for a living when you can be a bum and get everything for free?!
