NY Times: Arnold said he OPPOSES Ward Connerly's "Racial Privacy" initiative.
New York Times ^ | Aug. 20, 03 | CHARLIE LeDUFF and JOHN M. BRODER

Posted on 08/25/2003 4:11:37 PM PDT by churchillbuff

According to this NY Times article, from last Wednesday, at his press conference after his economic summit, "Mr. Schwarzenegger said ... that he did not support Proposition 54, which would prohibit the state from collecting racial data. That initiative will appear on the same ballot as the recall on Oct. 7." (read down in article)

If you oppose quotas and reverse racism, this should make you think twice about Arnold.

Well, I was an Arnold supporter, but this will be his death knell. He had a great opportunity to be a true anti-illegal immigration, anti-AA, low tax guy. This is not a smart move.

Arnold, why do we have to give our race when we're applying for government jobs of for a place in a government university? WHY DO YOU THINK THAT'S NECESSARY?

In all fairness to Arnie,, in his just completed radio interview with Hugh Hewitt, he said he is studying the issue at the current time and didn't say he either opposed or supported Prop 54.

That's a half flop ,, in my book.

I just heard Arnold on Hugh Hewitt and he said he was UNDECIDED ON PROP 54. He also said that his team is looking into the particulars and he will have a position soon.

FYI...

Remember, the above is from the NY Times. Making stories up again??

This is from the NYT. Who knows if it's true or not.

Well, call his campaign , or email them, and see if they give you another answer. That's the trouble with this guy and his campaign - - - what do they stand for? It's hard to tell. Very different from Reagan - - or McClintock.

he said he was UNDECIDED ON PROP 54.

He's UNDECIDED on whether the government should be allowed to demand our race when we apply for a job? That hardly inspires confidence about his principles. What does it require for him to make up his mind - - polling? I suspect he spoke his liberal instincts when the NY Times was listening -- and now is backtracking, or hoping he can stall, so sycophants like you won't wake up and realize he's an empty work-out suit.

Gosh I sure hope someone will link in what Cruz Bustamante thinks. I'd really like to know who to vote for if Arnold's numbers remain high and Tom's cap at around 15. Cruz? Arnold? Cruz? Arnold? Boy this will be a though choice for some of our forum participants. I pitty them their dilema.

Almost every time Arnie is cornered he crawls out from under a liberal rock.

The more Arnie I know the more I'm convinced he's a liberal Democrat.

Actually, if he ran as a Democrat, he'd probably win in California.

yea, especially for we American people that have no race...I once trained at a government university for over 24 months for a communications job but was replaced after 2 days by the very first CETA applicant, who mumbled ebonics, had not even a high school GED. [Since then I always mark the racism box as "native American"]

there was no direct quote of Arnold saying he opposed it.

I heard Arnold Schwarzenegger on the Roger Hedgecock show today, where he said he hadn't decided or wasn't sure, but I'm not too clear on what he meant. Anyway, he wouldn't support it.

Tom McClintock was on the show a little earlier today, too, and he definitely supported Prop 54.
