I waited and searched, but no threads about Rush's first hour today. So here goes....
You can donate to Operationac.org with PayPal. I did and it only took a few minutes.
Don't worry about where the power comes from to run the air conditioners. Our troops are setting on pool of oil.

I'm so glad you posted this. I only a snippet of it and was wondering what he was talking about.

Conservative Alerts.com | Conservative Alerts Post Office refuses to send air conditioners to Troops in Iraq: "According to a Washington Times editorial today... a volunteer effort to send our troops air conditioners to make their tour of duty in Iraq a little easier to bear has had the effort stopped cold in its tracks... by the Post Office! "Last Friday, Mrs. Frankie Mayo -- the organizer of Operation Air Conditioner who had 302 new units ready for shipment -- was informed 'by a bureaucrat in an air-conditioned office at Delaware's Wilmington Distribution Center that it would no longer ship the air conditioners because they contain... |

Maybe they are battery powered?
or maybe we should be sending them electric generators instead.

for the 1 millionth time. the army has generators big ones too. from what I'm told the generators need to be ran at full capacity or they wont function properly, they generally dont.

mystery-ak, Thanks to you and your husband for your service to our country.
There is no group of people more innovative than American Soldiers. I am confident that they will find the means to power the A/C units. Most fixed locations have AC generators and there is plenty of oil and gas in country to run the generators.
One of the pictures on the www.operationac.org site shows a improvised A/C hookup with sand bags to make it fit the "window".

Yes, but you need electricity to run the things. My son's unit is just now receiving big generators to run these things. One thing is true: it is as hot as hell over there.

Great cause bump.

Have you no faith in the ingenuity of our boys? Seriously they are slowly but surely getting electricity in all base camps either from local power sources or from generators. My sons squad recently requested a toaster oven, microwave, and a fridge which has all been donated by the Moms of these boys, we dont question them we just ship what they ask for.

Too bad some of those mealy mouthed mothers in massachusetts didn't think to do something good for their soldiers instead of whine.

There isn't a unit out there that doesn't deploy with a good, old fashioned diesel generator set.

My email to El-Rushbo:
Rush,
Having spent one tour in Egypt and another during Desert Shield/Desert Storm I can sympathize with the troop there now.
Sending 900 air conditioners will probably create 890 logistics nightmares until Iraqi civil power is restored (and beyond). It would take volumes to explain Army logistics but trust me, it will cause problems almost everywhere.
All Army units operate under a Table of Organization and Equipment specific to their type of unit. It tells the unit what number of personnel, in what specialties and grade they may have. It also lays out, in minute detail, the equipment those people need to perform the unit's mission.
Adding a 5,000 BTU air conditioner to say, a missile or radar repair unit would not be a problem because they have tons of power generation capacity. Guess what? Almost all of their equipment in enclosed in shelters that are already air conditioned.
Adding a 5,000 BTU AC to an infantry platoon makes about as much sense as sending them parkas and ice skates. They have just enough power to run their commo gear.
I applaud the efforts of these folks but it's the small things (handi-wipes, hard candies, toilet articles, LETTERS, etc) that make a soldier's life better in the field.
My sister sent me a round of Longhorn cheese to me in Egypt. I was the most popular guy in camp for about a dozen breakfast meals. My wife sent 10 boxes of Immodium AD to me in Desert Storm. I owe her my life.
Above all, thanks to everyone who cares enough to send something.
