Title: Anti-North Korea protest sparks Scuffles (Started by North Korean reporters) at World Student Games in S. Korea

TAEGU, S. KOREA: Scuffles broke out at the World Student Games in South Korea Sunday as a group of North Koreans broke up a peaceful (anti-Kim Jong-il) protest outside the press center here.

About 100 riot police and another 40 police officers moved in as four members of the North Korean delegation charged about a dozen protesters demonstrating against Pyongyang’s communist regime. Norbert Vollertsen, a German activist who had appeared at the demonstration wearing a neck brace and supported by crutches, collapsed to the floor and was later taken, in obvious distress, by trolley to a nearby ambulance.

Vollertsen was midway through an anti-North Korean speech when four members of the Pyongyang press delegation pushed through the crowd of reporters to break up the demonstration. The melee spread across the forecourt of the press centre and then inside the building as the North Koreans extricated themselves from the fighting and ran back to their offices. No arrests were made. North Korea had threatened to pull out of the Games, only their second multinational competition in South Korea since 1948, after its flag was burnt during protests in Seoul.

The team only agreed to make the trip here, 300 kilometres (190 miles) south of Seoul, when South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun expressed regret for the incident. The demonstration on Sunday, organised by a coalition of groups protesting against North Korea’s nuclear drive, had intended to accuse local media of paying too much attention to the North Koreans in their news reports. The protesters held up photographs of emaciated children and banners reading “Down with Kim Jong-Il, rescue our brethren”, referring to North Korea’s reclusive leader. “Local news media are focusing on covering North Korean athletes and their supporters, isolating 170 other participating countries,” said a statement released ahead of the protest. “This international sporting event is being utilised by North Korea for its political propaganda.” —AFP

(AIT Note: I am reminded of the (many) past attacks committed suddenly by groups of enraged North Koreans on American military in the DMZ and at other locations, because if they did not attack and protect the image of the "Great Leader" they themselves may face execution upon returning to Pyongyang).

This is big news in Korea and Asia, as it came at the "mini-Olympics" (Universiade Games) for university students. North Korea has sent a team of athletes to South Korea, and about 300 pretty-but-brainwashed cheerleaders, as a Berling 1938-style propaganda move trying to paint North Korea as a wonderful place.

Those know know otherwise, including the German (Vollertsen) doctor who lived in North Korea but was kicked out when he started questioning the regime, tried to have a peaceful demonstration at the sports site. Here is a photo montage of the attack on the anti-North Korea demonstrators by NORTH KOREAN JOURNALISTS. Also, (below) is a graphic video clip of the suddent and short attack by the North Koreans.

The latest. This, on Sunday, is ON TOP OF the failed effort Friday to release radio-balloons toward North Korea, that was crushed by S. Korean police.

Various interests, some buried and others bold, do not apppear to appreciate the truth being aired about North Korea.

The anti-Kim Jong il / pro-USA groups in Seoul, greatly angered, are saying now they will organize even larger groups and S. Korean demonstrations against Pyongyang in light of these recent provocations against them by both the S. Korean police AND the criminal North Korean visitors currently in S. Korea at the sporting event.

The anti-Kim Jong il/pro-USA groups in Seoul vowed that N. Korean flags will be burned again in the new bigger rally, this time by surviving families of navy sailors killed by N. Korean attack in late last June. They would dare to arrest these family members for burning the flags. That would be really interesting.

The feckless Roh Moo-hyun made the situation worse by caving to N. Koreans. I think that Roh's government will try to block this rally in any way they can before it materializes while anti-Kim groups will do their best to push it through. We could have a real extremely polarized ugly situation coming.

By the way, some of protestors in Taegu were hit by a N. Korean with 1-meter (3.3 feet) long wooden stick. However, the cops were slow to intervene even if they were right next to the protestors. Other reporters covering the protest did most of the rescuing. Cops were cowering for fear of offending N. Koreans. Cops are just loyal tool of the regime just like many pro-North medias.

About 1/2 way into the video (60 seconds), the fight scene starts and all hell breaks loose with the North Koreans, in short-sleeved white shirts, suddenly storming the anti-Kim Jong-il people. It is right after a pathetic scene of apology by a Universiade representative that such a thing does not happen in the future.
