What (men) do women want?

Do conservative women look for different qualities of masculinity in men than liberal women do? Is sex appeal not so much in the eye, but in a point of view? Do young Republicans and young Democrats have different ideas about "hooking up" (which is what young people call pairing off).

Like everything else in the soft science of psychology, it depends on the interpretation you read. Data can be dada. My favorite survey of the season was made by the Independent Women's Forum, a conservative woman's organization that contends with radical feminism with long red nails, good looks, educated smarts and a sense of humor. At the end of every summer, IWF interviews Capitol Hill interns who work in congressional offices during their summer vacations.

Also, if you fit the "nice guy" pattern, lots of women will try to make you their nice, safe, forgiving, naive little security blanket. The guy whose shoulder they come to cry on when the "mean guy" won't let them spend the night or whatever. Best thing to do is be in the "mean guy" catagory, but occasionally act decent as a sort of merciful condescension.

What I've noticed is that the "Nice Guy" gets no respect because he tolerates not getting respect. The distinguishing characteristic of the "bad boy" is that he doesn't tolerate disrespect, and while he may WANT a woman's company, he doesn't NEED any PARTICULAR woman's company enough to put up with what the "nice guy" will. The result is that he gets respect from women

addendum to 184: being a "bad boy" does NOT mean that you treat women badly. It does NOT mean that you don't do nice things for them. It does NOT mean that you don't make them feel loved. It just means that you have a line that may not be crossed without peril to the relationship, and that you have confidence in being able to replace her if need be.

There's a lot of truth to that. But there are plenty of nice guys who won't take any crap off anyone; it's just that they do it in a nice way. There's a lot of room to be assertive between Mr. Doormat and Mr. Jerk.

See my 188. I think we're not far off from each other's viewpoints. There is a difference between being a strong "nice guy" and a pathetic doormat. A lot of times, a "nice guy" is defined as somebody who will give his woman whatever she asks for, and will forgive her for any behavior. Some women may enjoy using such a person for a while, but will not give him any respect, nor will they be interested in sticking with him.
