Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.
But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.
Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.
The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.
McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

Arnold's supporters seem to getting increasingly hysterical as the gap between him and Tom rapidly narrows.

Arnold's supporters . . .Bearing in mind their hero, that would make them athletic supportters, would it not?
To: A CA Guy
If Tom hangs on a bit and takes some of the heat, he may have some influence and a shot at Boxer - but if he keeps digging at Arnold, and especially the crossover issues that will get Arnold elected, he can join Davis on the scrapheap.

Who knows. Republicans have a great history in California of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. So stupid...Actually, liberal Republicans have a great history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. In fact, that term was first used in reference to the liberal Republican presidential candidate Thomas E. Dewey in his race against Harry Truman in 1948.
Later, it was applied to non-conservative Republican Richard Nixon when he lost to Kennedy, non-conservative Republican Gerald Ford when he lost to Carter, non-conservative Republican George Bush I when he lost to Clinton . . . see a pattern here?
You don't? How about in the New York Senate Race, when Giuliani was the moderate who would beat Hillary?
Do liberal Republicans serve any other function in life other than to keep conservative Republicans from running in elections?

McSpoiler's future is over if he doesn't get out soon. Like by tomorrow afternoon. The longer he waits, the longer people are going to remember. This guy has no chance at winning this particular race, but that's not to say that he won't be given another shot.
Assuming Issa's lining up for Senator next year, Tom could come in as budget director, gain a lot of visibility, and be set for Lt. Gov, Controller, Sec of State, etc in 2006.
Then again, he might ride this thing all the way to the end, and take a chance at not even being re-elected in TO. The golfing set out in Westlake/N. Ranch have the same memories as Newport Beach.

"Do liberal Republicans serve any other function in life other than to keep conservative Republicans from running in elections?"
Huh ?
All of your examples are of non-conservative Republicans being beaten - perhaps because "they are not pure enough" conservatives stayed home ?
are you supposing that if they went far right and left their "non-conservative" support behind they would have won ?
absurd - If conservatives were powerfull enough to elect strict conservative candidates they would - and Gov Simon would not be facing a recall.

I'm informed of the following from a telephone source.
Rohrbacher has never been one of the deep think guys; he's in an elected position; he's apt to be doing this because he thinks it's good for dana r.
In his YAF days, was he not one of the self-named anarcho-libertarians at the '69 YAF convention? Yes, fortunately he's changed he attitude vis-a-vis the conservative movement. But his philosophical judgment of issues and personalities demonstrably has to be taken with a grain of salt.

What is your opinion of Rohrabacher and Dreier supporting Schwarzenegger from day one, with enthusiasm? Rohrbacher does not impress me in any way whatsoever. David Dreier is part of Arnold's support team, and a big liar to boot.
Arnold is a liberal and will have the backing of Teddy, plus a whole host of millionaires.
We will have a duplicate of Davis if we get Arnold or Bustamante.
Its time for Tom McClintock to save this state.

I think if McC gets out soon and runs against Arnold next time, that would be fine.
If he waits until never or just before it is over and still plays the spoiler, that is the end of his future as far as I am concerned.

A lot of guys went to Nam -
That dosen't mean everyone has the "we have to destroy the village to save it" mentality.
But strangely enough, some McClintock supporters on FR still semm to think that way

Didn't take much to draw you out.
It appears that its not so much you think McClintock is un-electable, as you think California should be more like New York, and Arnie is just the guy to do it.
Isn't Hillary their Senator?
Pay attenion California.
