>>>She still has to wrap her leg when she flies.

What? Your cousin is a bird :O

What happened? Does the poison stay in the system? Tell me more! Cause I'm always taking the kids out to hike in these preserves. Between what you just posted, what Meekie just posted and the Bear attacks Coleus posts about here in NJ...I'm starting to wonder if I'm educating them or putting them in harms way. (see Mama_bear, I'm not the nature expert I make my self out to be...I might be more naive then I should be)

Huh, I don't see it in the NE Peterson's Field guide. When I lived in NC and FL, there were reference maps everywhere to the animals indigenous to the state. NJ doesn't seem to have one. The field guide I have doesn't show pictures of the snake I saw. hmmm....Off to do more research. I'm curious now. Last time we hiked at this watershed property, I saw a rainbow boa sunning himself on the trail. THAT I know was a domestic pet released by 'someone'. I now wonder how many animals are able to adapt to being released? I saw this snake REALLY well. I need to find a picture before I forget. Maybe the nature center needs a 'heads up'.

Anxiously awaiting Tuesday....... and getting ready to pounce! hehehe

LOL, The Thin Man, you'll see this thread is practically *dedicated* to you. You'll have no problem pouncing. hehehe.

I just have the sneaking suspicion that, as per usual, the last laugh will be on those lacking a sense of humor.

As a matter of fact, yes. At the moment they're in Argentina.

I understand the poison stays in the system for a while. She was in bad shape for the first 3 or 4 days.

It wasn't around water. There's a creek on the back of their property beyond a "barn" where the cats and dogs sleep at night. The snake was between their house and the barn, at least 100 yards or more from the creek. That's what's scary. It was clsoer to the pool than to the creek.

I don't know how big it was or how they know what kind it was or how dark it was. All this was in Friendswood, between Houston and Galveston--not out in a wilderness. It gives me chill bumps!

I lived in rural NC for years. We did a volunteer medical tour there. We saw alot of wildlife then. But NC had a large resource for looking up the wildlife. That is why I went nuts teaching my kids everything about wildlife. Now, I can't even find a picture of the NE's reptiles. That snake I saw wasn't in the field guide I had.

I miss alot about NC. Even Florida for the short stint we were on tour there.

So what does this mean?

She is a pilot?

Ha ha! We should ping you to our Bear Stories here in NJ!

You won't believe this but the same cousin just returned from her annual "girl's week" in Aspen. While there a bear broke into the house and went straight to the refrig. They were in the house!

It was the third time her friends had had a bear in their house this summer. It's up on a mountain. (They look down on Cher)

She flew with her leg wrapped. It's still swollen and gets worse when she makes like a bird.

I'm really curious as to why that is. I'm proven hypersensitive to insect bites. I've heard that these sensitivities would be worse with a snake or jellyfish. Ironically I love the water and hiking.

Does your cousin have problems with normal bug bites? Is she hyperactive?

I will be back Monday with Weinies campaign, for now...seriously, does she have reactions? To even normal things like mosquitos?

She is a pilot?

Thank heavens no. If so, it would have to be on auto-pilot because she would be pre-occupied talking to somebody. They're on (another) vacation.

I don't know if she's allergic or not to insect bites. I hope not to mosquitos--have you ever been in Houston in the summer.

They did discover when she was in for the bite that she is borderline diabetic but just watching her diet.

Have you found a picture of the snake yet?

No. Never been to Texas. I have a hopeful dream of one day owning an Rv and visiting everywhere in North America.

>>>Have you found a picture of the snake yet?

NO! I'm very disturbed by the lack of information too! NJ sucks with info sites!
