This clash has certainly invigorated those who believe the government has gone to far in eliminating religion from public places. And I count myself as one of those. It's gotten ridiculous.

But I'm not willing to support Judge Moore in defying the judiciary. That is so wrong, and it's a threat to our country. I have no problem with anyone peacefully protesting the removal of the monument.

I have a big problem with anyone who supports Judge Moore's defiance of the court order. I hope Freepers understand the difference.

How many divorced people, especially men, have you met who thought they got a fair shake in their divorce decree?

Sometimes its necessary to be in contempt of court. Once my ex-wife came to pick up her son for a court ordered visitation. He was about 3. She was about 12 hours late, he was in bed and she was drunk. I refused her access. She later had her attorney cite me for contempt.

I told the judge I ws without remorse and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Well, I understand what you're saying, but everyone has a breaking point. Is there not some ruling which you would be willing to defy?

What if a judge ruled that escaped slaves must be returned to their legal owners? Thankfully, many people did defy such rulings.

Good.

I believe all of the world events since 9-11 are working for the Lord. So much upheaval and pain in our lives are not among those things that Christ wants for us. He wants us to turn to the Father.

This gives Bush a chance now to appoint him to the Supreme Court.

BWAAAAHAHAHA Like Bush would appoint someone who thinks that courts shouldn't be obeyed. Oh, man, too funny.

OK, this is what I don't understand. The SCOTUS refuses to take the appeal

Its my understanding they just refused to put a stay on the order to remove. They have not yet said one way or the other if they will take appeal.

I'm glad and "filthy Papist" are your words not mine.

Obviously not all Catholics are anti-pluralist secularists.

On this board however, there is no denying that the loudest voices against Moore are professed non-Protestants and a handful of atheists.

Part of my extended family are Catholic. It is only by chance of birth that I am not among them. I bear them no ill will and wish them the best.

I even feel that way for the Catholic and Orthodox Freepers here with whom I have issue, they are simply wrong and appear predisposed for any number of speculative reasons to be anti-right wing Christian politics or culture on this and many other issues. I've been here 3 years active. I know them. This is nothing new.

Well we have to think of something. Some people have been making hints of violence. And if we don't think of something, it's going to get a lot more ugly. I don't want to make martyrs of these creeps.

Civil Disobedience -- rally citizens to withold all government payment (tax, school fees, utilities, loan repayment, fines, rents, etc.) until the government is on its knees.

It was typed firmly tongue-in-cheek.

Pryor did the right thing here, upholding the law.

You are right.

There should be ten million people around that courthouse on Monday. By the end of the week there should be 50 million. If the SCOTUS want's to waffle on this issue, let it. Peaceful protest was recongized as very effective during the 60's. It's about time our side showed 'em how it's really done!

I think you're right about this. I recall someone (on Fox, of course) saying that the issue could, potentially, get to the Supreme Court of the US. But as someone suggested earlier, is it really a good idea to take this particular case to the court with its current makeup? All I know is that the "establishment of religion" clause has been perverted over the past 40 years. It prevented Congress from creating the "Church of the United States" back in the early days, but it didn't prohibit public support of the Church of Massachusetts.

Ask congress to DEFUND FEDERAL JUDGES' SALARIES UNTIL MOORE IS VINDICATED.

From Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution:

The judicial power of the United States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and in such inferior courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The judges, both of the supreme and inferior courts, shall hold their offices during good behaviour, and shall, at stated times, receive for their services, a compensation, which shall not be diminished during their continuance in office.
