[history]
Senator John F. Kerry has decided to trade "Old Ironsides" for the USS Yorktown, planning to stand before the aircraft carrier on Sept. 2 to publicly declare his candidacy for president.
The Massachusetts Democrat had considered using the USS Constitution in Charlestown, the Navy's oldest commissioned warship, as a backdrop for the announcement. But campaign aides said Kerry decided to change the location to the Yorktown, which is docked off Charleston, S.C., both to gain publicity in the politically important state as well as to counter the trip President Bush took to an aircraft carrier May 1 to declare an end to major combat operations in Iraq.

Oh puke. Hey, Ketchup Boy, stay the hell up in Massachusetts and don't pollute the Palmetto State with your fine French demeanor and your French body odor, 'k? You insult the memory of the men who served on the
Yorktown by your mere presence, Lurch.
BTW, did you know he served in Vietnam?

Oh, here's a big difference between W and Ketchup Boy:
Our President flew in an active military aircraft onto a carrier in service, doing a trap on the carrier and then addressing our troops.
Ketchup Boy will fly into the Charleston airport, take a limo out to Patriot's Point, and board a floating museum, surrounded by 30- to 60-year-old static unflyable airplanes, to address political hacks.
Discuss.

He's going to look like Bush lite. Comparisons will, no doubt, be less than flattering. That's a good thing.

A presidential hopeful from, of all things, Massachusetts! It's laughable.

Former Massachusetts state Senate president William Bulger, foreground, is seen in this March 1995 file photo reacting while talking on the phone to former President Clinton, during the annual St. Patrick's Day breakfast in south Boston. Bulger, who recently had been serving as president of the University of Massachusetts, announced his resignation Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003. U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., is seen in the background. "I have worked with aircraft carriers for real," Kerry has saidYeah, Frenchy--and I said "The Russians should get rid of the Berlin Wall" at the water fountain before Reagan made his speech. How many naval aviators have actually landed a Navy plane on a carrier--never mind been a passenger on one? What mattered was that the commander-in-chief was the passenger.
Better put some ice on that . . .

I thought this was a joke when I first saw the headline. After reading the article, I've decided it's Kerry who is the joke.

"I have worked with aircraft carriers for real," Kerry has said, mocking the widely photographed landing Bush made on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Will we see the pictures of Kerry denouncing the VietNam War during this announcement? I don't think so. This man does not have an original thought in his head--he has been calling himself John F. Kerry since he started running for president and now this annoncement with the boat crews he commanded present! Kerry is no Jack Kennedy and we all know he could never be a George W.
Kerry needs new political image advisors.

"I have worked with aircraft carriers for real," SO WHAT?!?! This is supposed to instill respect for his leadership because he was no an aircraft carrier?
Just doesn't pass the SO WHAT test, for me at least.
