[history]
Conservatives yesterday indicated more support for Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid to become governor of California.
But they still stood ready to jump to one of two other major Republican candidates if the "Terminator" star stumbles badly in the campaign to replace Democratic Gov. Gray Davis.

Actually, Arnold completely outclassed the other candidates with their vote pandering gimmicks. The politicians have the solutions before they know the problems, statesmen find out what the problems are and fix them. Sure we all want are illegal vehicle taxes back, but that ain't gonna fix the overspending. Getting a group of independent accountants to go over the budget is a great first step. Then it's time for the line item veto pen!

Is Bill Jones a RINO too?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/967714/posts?page=106#106 "I was encouraged by a radio interview with our former state Sec. of State from California, Bill Jones on a local talk show today. He made me feel lots better about Arnold, and convince me more or less that he will be good for the state. He is advising Arnold, and has had many conversations with him about his policy plans.

Excellent Analysis.
Now if only McClintock and his advisors would figure it out.
To: FairOpinion
The hardcore social conservatives would rather Bustamante get elected than have a less then fire-breathing culture warrior Republican win the governorship. Even though the next governor, whoever he might turn out to be, won't exactly be banning abortion or incarcerating homosexuals, it's still important to these folks that Republican leaders strike the right meaningless pose. But by holding Republican candidates to these standards, the conservatives may just be enabling the continued rule of the state by truly ultra-liberal, gun-banning, pro-abortion Democrats.

Is McClintock's "real goal" the U.S. Senate, specifically a run against Barbara Boxer next year?
If that is the case, his run for governor is shallow.
Your warning that he risks losing support "if he runs a bitter, spoiler to-the-end race against Arnold" is solid.
McClintock has no chance for governor, and cannot expect support from people who elect the next governor whom he (and his supporters) now ridicule.
Reagan's Eleventh Commandment is there for a reason.
Bill Richardson is New Mexico's governor because the outgoing GOP Lieutenant Governor and the GOP gubernatorial candidate would not reconcile their differences and unite.

"Why in God's name, would any conservative support a liberal for California Governor? Not only is Arnold a liberal, he's a RINO too. Arnold says, he doesn't have to supply specific figures about where he would cut the budget, because the people don't care about figures. Say what?!"
Do you like the figures Bustamove is espousing?!?! 8-10 BILLION dollars in new taxes!!
If Simon, McClintock, and Peter Ueberoth do not have a chance to win, which is what most analysis seems to point out, why help Bustamove win?
What have you won by voting for McClintock/Simon/Ueberoth and Bustamove becomes governor? Answer: Absolutely nothing. In that case, why have the recall at all? From what I read, Bustamove is WORSE than Davis.
Keep an eye on the ball!!!! The goal now is the remove Davis AND prevent Bustamove from winning!!

>>>The politicians have the solutions before they know the problems, statesmen find out what the problems are and fix them. Not true.
Good politicians like Ronald Reagan, went in with a detailed plan and specific agenda. And to be a statesman, you first have to be successful.
So far, Arnold has given no details or specifics on how he would balance the budget and exactly what programs he would cut. He also hasn't ruled out raising taxes. I don't consider Arnold a fiscal conservative.
>>>Sure we all want are illegal vehicle taxes back, but that ain't gonna fix the overspending.
I suggest you take a look at Tom McClintock's website. he gives specifics on a wide range of issues.
McClintok says, a 9.5% cut in spending over an 18 month period, will balance the budget with no tax increases ... " accompanied by a comprehensive review of every state agency and program now on the books".... and he wants the "constitutional spending limit ... restored".
I like McClintock's economic plan. Its conservative and fiscally responsible. McClintok also has a plan to address the car tax, Cal's energy problems and the issue related to workers compensation.
At this point of the campaign, any conservative who supports a liberal like Schwarzenegger, needs their head examined.

"any conservative who supports a liberal like Bustamante, needs their head examined. "
To: dmanLA
Schwarzenegger is a liberal, with an "R" next to his name.
Bustamonte is a liberal with a "D" next to his name.
I don't see the difference.
Besides, Arnold gives no specifics or details on what his full governing agenda will look like. And according to Arnold himself, he has no intention of giving out any details until after the election. That's not the sign of a good politician. That's the sign of a desperate novice.

>>>"any conservative who supports a liberal like Bustamante, needs their head examined. "Agreed. So what's your point?
To: Reagan Man
Nice summary. This is Oprah soccer mom politics at its worst. Say a few lovey dovey things on the TV and track the polling data afterwards to see what worked. No substance whatsoever.

George Shultz's public service credentials are impressive. Except, George Shultz isn't running for Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger is and so far, Arnold's rhetoric isn't specific and his agenda is vague.
Still, having George Shultz as an advisor carries a lot of validity and weight to the campaign.
To: Reagan Man
Any conservative voting for anyone other than Arnold, is voting for Bustamante.
